Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 7:24 PM CDT Aug. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
southeastern La Salle County in north central Illinois...
north central Ford County in east central Illinois...
northern Livingston County in central Illinois...
southern Grundy County in northeastern Illinois...
southwestern Will County in northeastern Illinois...
southwestern Kankakee County in northeastern Illinois...

* until 115 PM CDT Monday

* at 718 PM CDT... Doppler radar rainfall estimates indicated that
widespread amounts of two inches had fallen earlier this afternoon
across the warned area... with locally higher amounts in excess of
four inches. Significant flooding was occurring... particularly
near Braceville... ODell... Cornell and Dana. High water will begin
to slowly recede tonight... but flooding will remain problematic
across the area into Monday. Many roads and intersections are
flooded.

This warning replaces flash flood warnings previously in effect
for the warned area.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Pontiac... Dwight... Braidwood... Diamond... Herscher... Gardner...
Gridley... Flanagan... ODell... Mazon... Braceville...
Lakewood Shores... Essex... South Wilmington... Godley... Cornell...
Ransom... Buckingham... Cabery and Verona.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
