Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Advisory, Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 10:16 AM HST Apr. 28, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* flood advisory for...
the island of Oahu in Honolulu County

* until 115 PM HST

* at 1010 am HST, radar indicated that showers along the North Shore
of Oahu were gradually diminishing, but new heavy showers were
developing elsewhere on the island, with rainfall rates near one
inch per hour. Some areas impacted by heavy rain include Kapolei,
makakilo and Kalaeloa, as well as areas upslope from Pearl City
and Aiea.

* This advisory includes the entire island of Oahu.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to
flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 115 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

This advisory replaces the previously issued advisory that was in
effect for portions of the island of Oahu in Honolulu County.

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from Saturday morning through
Sunday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu
and The Big Island.

* From Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon

* a front will stall over the area at the same time a potent low
aloft moves overhead, bringing slow-moving heavy showers and
thunderstorms that could result in flash-flooding. While
forecast models currently indicate the greatest threat for
flooding will occur over Maui County, Oahu and The Big Island
also have the potential to receive flooding rain.

* Heavy rain is expected to be widespread in Maui County,
impacting urban and leeward areas, which are more susceptible to
flooding problems, especially in south and west Maui. These
areas include Kihei, Lahaina, Kaanapali, and low-water crossings
along piilani Highway between Kaupo and Ulupalakua.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
