Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 11:58 AM AKDT Jul. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
southern Seward Peninsula and Nulato Hills...

* until midnight akdt Sunday

* heavy rainfall is beginning to fall in the southern Seward
Peninsula and Nulato Hills and will continue to through midday on
Saturday. Rainfall amounts are expected to be 1 and 2 inches with
locally heavier rainfall amounts. The heaviest rainfall is
expected to be east of Nome on the Seward Peninsula and in the
Nulato Hills. Rapid rises in small stream are expected today with
the larger rivers in the area... including the niukluk and Koyuk
rivers... rising to near bankfull levels on Saturday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads
or trails.

To report flooding... have the nearest Village police officer and
relay your report to the National Weather Service forecast office.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.
