Coastal Hazard Statement, Coastal Flood Statement
Issued: 5:06 PM EDT May. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High rip current risk in effect through Thursday morning...
... Coastal flood statement in effect through Thursday morning...

* coastal flooding... water levels of 1 to 2 feet above normal
tides.

* Coastal flood timing... today through early Thursday morning.

* Coastal flood impacts... minor coastal flooding at times of
high tide will be possible. Overwash on to low lying roadways
will also be possible.

* Rip current timing... gusty onshore winds will create hazardous
surf which in turn will create a high risk of rip currents at
area beaches through this evening.

* Rip current impacts... strong and dangerous rip currents will
be hazardous for those in the surf zone at area beaches.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol...
flags and signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... Yell for help. Remain
calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current... swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.
