Ice Storm Warning
Issued: 11:45 AM CST Jan. 16, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Ice Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight CST
tonight...

* hazard... freezing rain and dangerous amounts of ice.

* Timing and precipitation type... periods of freezing rain will
continue through mid-afternoon. Freezing rain should change
over to sleet and a little snow by mid to late afternoon and
then end early this evening.

* Storm-total ice accumulations... one-quarter to six tenths of an
inch. Highest amounts will be south of Highway 92 and along and
east of Highway 281.

* Snow accumulations... a dusting to near an inch... with the
highest amounts from Alma to Grand Island to Fullerton.

* Winds... increasing to 10 to 20 mph from the north this
afternoon and evening... with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Impacts... dangerous travel conditions. Icy roads will result
in traffic accidents and slide-off's. Icy sidewalks and
parking lots could result in injuries from slipping and
falling. Any broken tree limbs could damage power lines
resulting in scattered power outages.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An Ice Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Significant amounts of ice accumulations
will make travel dangerous or impossible. Travel is strongly
discouraged. Commerce will likely be severely impacted. If you
must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency. Ice accumulations and winds will
likely lead to snapped power lines and falling tree branches that
add to the danger.
