Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 1:56 PM AKDT Jul. 25, 2016 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the

* Flood Advisory for...
the chena river upstream of nordale Road...

* until 245 PM akdt Wednesday

* the chena river east of nordale Road remains near bankfull with
minor flooding in some locations. Low lying boat launches and
trailheads may still be underwater... including the Granite tors
trailhead... Stiles creek shooting range... and the compeau
trailhead and the portions of the spillway upstream of the Moose
Creek dam. The river is now falling from Two Rivers east and
should continue falling. From the Moose Creek dam downstream the
chena river will remain high through Wednesday as water slowly
drains out from the dam.

* In the Steamboat Landing subdivision in North Pole... water levels
are expected to remain at minor flood stage through Wednesday.
Several inches of water will continue to cross Freeman
Road... river water will inundate some yards in the
subdivision... and groundwater flooding will occur in some
basements.

* The U.S. Army corps of engineers Alaska district is currently
operating the Moose Creek dam. Flood control gates at the dam
started regulating the chena river at 6:00 PM on 20 July 2016.
The dam will be regulating the chena river so that flow does not
exceed 12000 cubic feet per second in downtown Fairbanks.
Groundwater will rise to near the ground surface for several
thousand feet west of the Moose Creek dam with minor flooding
possible. River navigation through the Moose Creek dam is
unavailable during operations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
