The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a
* Flood Advisory for...
the Susitna and maclaren rivers and small streams along the
eastern half of the Denali Highway...
* until 245 am akdt Monday
Heavy rainfall over the past two days has caused significant rises
in water levels on the Susitna river and the maclaren river where
they cross the Denali Highway. Water levels are at or near bankfull
levels in both rivers. Other small streams north of the Denali
Highway are also expected to be at or near bankfull levels.
Additional rainfall amounts of between one half inch and one inch
are forecast for areas north of the Denali Highway with an
additional rise in both the Susitna and maclaren rivers possible
through Sunday night.
Minor flooding of low lying areas and swift currents that will be
hazardous to recreational activities are possible. Do not attempt to
travel across flooded roads and trails. People camping or involved
in activities near streams in this area should be alert for rising
water levels and be prepared to move to higher ground.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water is occurring or is imminent. Do not attempt to
travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a
few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
