* surf... along east facing shores of Kauai Oahu Molokai Maui and
The Big Island... 10 to 14 feet today... lowering to 8 to 12 feet
tonight... and 6 to 9 feet on Monday.

* Timing... through 6 PM HST Monday evening.

* Impacts... moderate... expect strong breaking waves... shore
break... and strong currents making swimming dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise
caution. Be prepared for water splashing onto coastal roads along
the east facing shores.

Issued: 3:31 AM HST Jan. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning now in effect until noon HST today...

* winds... northeast trades 25 to 40 mph with localized gusts to
60 mph.

On Kauai... the strongest winds will be focused in leeward areas
from Barking Sands to Koloa.

On Oahu... the strongest winds will impact areas over and
immediately west of the koolau and Waianae ranges.

In Maui County... the strongest winds will be in the Lee of
mountain areas... across much of Lanai and Kahoolawe... and through
the Central Valley of Maui.

On The Big Island... the strongest winds will be focused in the
leeward kohala area... the Waimea to Kawaihae corridor... western
saddle areas... and north of Kailua-Kona in the north Kona
district.

* Timing... warning level winds will remain statewide through the
morning. While winds are expected to weaken slightly by
afternoon... some portions of the state may have the warning
level winds through the rest of the day and may warrant another
extension.

* Impacts... winds this strong can result in damaged roofs...
broken and falling tree branches... downed power poles and
power lines resulting in interruptions to power... downed
trees... and flying debris if outdoor items are not properly
tied down.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Residents should bring in or tie down any loose outdoor items.

A High Wind Warning means that sustained winds of 40 mph... or
gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the
latest forecasts.
