Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 10:00 PM PDT Jun. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect through Saturday
evening...

* surf... 3 to 5 ft at Orange County beaches and Oceanside
northward in San Diego County, gradually subsiding through
Saturday.

* Tides... highest tide of around 6.9 to 7.2 feet Saturday night
at 955 PM. Lowest tides will be around -1 to -1.5 feet Saturday
at 424 am.

* Impacts... lingering rip and longshore currents will increase
the risk of drowning... especially for inexperienced swimmers.
High tides above 7 feet may produce minor tidal overflow for low
lying areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current... relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able... swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape... face the
shore and call or wave for help.

A beach hazards statement for minor tidal overflow means that
high astronomical tides may produce minor flooding of low-lying
areas along the beach such as beach parking lots. Coastal
officials should take the necessary precautionary measures to
safeguard their beaches.
