Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 3:13 PM PST Jan. 20, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from midnight Saturday night to
4 am PST Monday...
... Winter Weather Advisory is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm
Warning for heavy snow, which is in effect from midnight Saturday
night to 4 am PST Monday. The Winter Weather Advisory has been
cancelled. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

* Timing: light snow showers will end this evening. A period of
heavy snow will impact western Nevada from late Saturday night
to early Monday morning.

* Snow accumulations: 6 to 14 inches for valley locations and 1
to 2 feet for foothills and areas above 5000 feet, including
Virginia City.

* Winds: gusts up to 45 mph on Sunday, may lead to areas of
blowing and drifting snow.

* Impacts: dangerous travel conditions due to very low visibility
and snow covered roads. Travel into the Sierra on Sunday could
be nearly impossible. Strongly consider staying at home on
Sunday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and
car. If traveling, consider alternate plans. Remember to carry
tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm
arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended
period of time.
