A tropical disturbance pushing toward the Bahamas, is expected to develop into a tropical depression or storm, and will likely target Florida and the Gulf Coast this weekend into next week.

Right now, the disturbance remains a broad area of low pressure pushing through the Dominican Republic and Haiti, headed toward the southeast Bahamas. Rainfall totals over 3 inches (with locally higher amounts) are expected in HispaƱiola, particularly over elevated terrain.

Garfield and west central Delta counties until 545 PM MDT...

At 457 PM MDT... Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 38 miles west of Palisade to near Fruita to 11
miles southwest of Grand Junction to 28 miles north of Nucla.
Movement was northeast at 50 mph.

Half inch hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with
these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Grand Junction... Fruita... Palisade... Mack... Loma... Glade Park...
Whitewater... Redlands... Orchard Mesa... Cameo... Fruitvale and Clifton.

This includes the following highways... Interstate 70 between mile
markers 3 to 37 and U.S. Highway 6 between mile markers 14 and 32.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
