Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 5:56 AM CDT Aug. 17, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southeastern Denton County in north central Texas...

* until 800 am CDT.

* At 556 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen. This rainfall will lead to excessive water runoff
and cause flash flooding. Low-lying areas are most vulnerable to
rapidly rising water. Some low-water crossings may flood and become
impassable.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Plano, Carrollton, Frisco, Denton, Lewisville, Flower Mound,
Grapevine, Coppell, The Colony, Southlake, Corinth, Highland
Village, Trophy Club, Lake Dallas, Lake Lewisville, Little Elm,
Argyle, Hickory Creek, Double Oak and Shady Shores.

Additional rainfall amounts of one inch are possible in the warned
area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:24 AM CDT Aug. 17, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a

* flood advisory for...
Denton County in north central Texas...
southeastern Cooke County in north central Texas...
southwestern Grayson County in north central Texas...

* until 830 am CDT.

* At 524 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms that were
producing heavy rainfall from Flower Mound to Denton to Aubrey.
Radar estimates one to two inches of rain has fallen, and another
inch is possible over the next hour. Excessive runoff from these
thunderstorms will cause urban and small stream flooding. Areas
that are low lying or usually experience poor drainage are most
likely to experience flooding. This means some low water crossings
in the region may become impassable.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Plano, Carrollton, Frisco, Denton, Lewisville, Flower Mound,
Coppell, The Colony, Southlake, Corinth, Highland Village, Trophy
Club, Lake Dallas, Sanger, Lake Lewisville, Little Elm, Roanoke,
Pilot Point, Argyle and Hickory Creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
