Watches & Warnings

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 3:31 PM MDT Jul. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning in effect from noon to 9 PM MDT Sunday for low
rh, hot temperatures, gusty winds and isolated dry thunderstorms...
...

The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a red flag
warning, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM MDT Sunday.

* Impacts: low humidities... hot temperatures... gusty winds... and a
risk for isolated dry thunderstorms with gusty and erratic
outflow winds will create erratic fire behavior and an increased
risk for new fire starts.

* Affected area:
in southwest Montana, fire weather zones 116 and 118.

* Counties affected:
in central Montana, Cascade, Lewis And Clark, Meagher
                       Powell.
In southwest Montana, Broadwater, Gallatin, Jefferson.

* Wind: southwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

* Humidity: as low as 10 to 15 percent.

* Temperatures: in the upper 80 to mid 90s.

* Thunderstorms: isolated dry thunderstorms are possible late
Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening, mainly across fire
weather zone 118.

* Wind shift: a shift from southerly winds to northerly winds will
occur early Monday morning. This wind shift will be accompanied
by gusty winds, but higher relative humidity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are
either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong
winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute
to extreme fire behavior.

Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in these
areas of this red flag warning.
