Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 10:03 PM MST Feb. 22, 2017 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Glasgow has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
northeastern Phillips County in northeastern Montana...
northwestern Valley County in northeastern Montana...

* until 1015 PM MST Thursday

* at 951 PM MST, the Frenchman creek Guage near the international
border reported minor flooding. Water levels seem to have crested
near 13.5 feet early Tuesday evening and have now fallen to 12.6
feet, or 0.6 feet above flood stage. Minor flooding is expected to
continue through the morning hours on Thursday.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
near the Frenchman Reservoir.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are many low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous due to runoff from melting snow. Do not
attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate Route.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 11:40 AM MST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northeast Montana, including the following areas,
central and southern valley, Dawson, Richland, and Sheridan.

* Through Friday afternoon.

* Ice is breaking up and flowing along many of the rivers and
streams across the region. This includes the Yellowstone river
in the Glendive and Sidney areas. New ice jams could still form
and bring quickly rising water levels.

* An ice jam on the milk river in the Glasgow area continues to
contribute to High River levels. Levels are now steady and are
not expected to reach flood stage yet.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
