Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 3:09 PM CDT Jul. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... A Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams remains in
effect until 500 PM CDT for northwestern La Porte County...

At 306 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated that thunderstorms continue
to develop across portions of northwestern La Porte County. The
heaviest rainfall has shifted to along a line from Westville to La
Porte where a Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 530 PM CDT.
Locations to the north of this line may still see water on roads and
in low areas through the remainder of the afternoon.

Additional showers and thunderstorms are possible into this evening
and could add to flooding concerns.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few
inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

Special Statement
Issued: 1:01 PM CDT Jul. 29, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Funnel clouds possible this afternoon...

Atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of funnel
clouds... associated with rain showers and thunderstorms across the
area. These funnel clouds normally protrude a few hundred feet
downward from the parent cloud... rotate or spin like a top... and
last a few minutes before dissipating.

These funnel clouds rarely touch the ground and typically do not
pose any sort of hazard. The atmospheric conditions these funnels
are developing in do not support strong or damaging tornadoes.
However... on extremely rare occasions these funnels can briefly
touch the ground and produce minimal if any damage.

The National Weather Service will continue to closely monitor the
situation. Please forward reports of funnel sightings to the
nearest law enforcement agency for relay to the National Weather
Service.
