... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 am Friday to
midnight CST Friday night...

* timing... thunderstorms are likely through 9 am and will contain
small hail. Rain may mix with snow at times tonight over the far
northwest portions of the area; however will remain mainly rain
in the Des Moines and Waterloo metros overnight. The main
transition to snow will occur on Friday morning with light to
moderate snow persisting into Friday evening. In addition,
strong northwest winds will develop on Friday with blowing and
drifting snow possible. Conditions will begin to improve by
Friday evening as the system begins to depart.

* Storm total snow accumulations... 2 to 5 inches.

* Winds/visibility... winds becoming north to northwesterly at 20
to 25 mph with gusts over 40 mph. Visibilities will lower
during the day as snow continues to fall and accumulate.
Visibilities, especially in rural areas may drop below one half
mile from time to time on Friday.

* Impacts... roadways will become snow covered and blowing snow
will reduce visibility creating hazardous travel conditions
Friday into early Saturday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for blowing snow means that
visibilities will be limited due to strong winds blowing snow
around. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas.

Issued: 12:44 AM CST Feb. 24, 2017 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the Cedar River at Waterloo... or from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls city
limits... to Spring Creek near La Porte City.
* Until Monday evening.
* At 12:00 am Friday the stage was 11.3 feet... or 1.7 feet below
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* No flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise to flood stage early Sunday morning. Continue
rising to 13.3 feet... or 0.3 feet above flood stage... midday
Sunday. Then begin falling and go below flood stage Monday
evening.
* Impact... at 13.0 feet... many storm sewers are closed along Black
Hawk creek and the Cedar River. The Fletcher Avenue levee gates
are closed.

* Until Wednesday evening.
* At 11:45 PM Thursday the stage was 89.9 feet... or 1.9 feet above
flood stage.
* Flood stage is 88.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise to 91.3 feet... or 3.3 feet above flood stage...
midday Sunday. Then begin falling and go below flood stage
Wednesday evening.
* Impact... at 91.2 feet... water covers portions of lake street.
