The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the little Calumet River at Munster.
* From this afternoon to Friday morning.
* At 700 am Thursday the stage was 9.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to
rise to near 12.5 feet by this evening.The river will fall below
flood stage by early Friday.
* Impact... at 12.0 feet... minor overbank flooding immediately adjacent
to the river begins.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Kankakee River at Shelby.
* Until further notice.
* At 845 PM Wednesday the stage was 9.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 10.5 feet by
Friday evening then begin falling.
* Impact... at 10.0 feet... flooding affects County and local roads.
Wildwood Estates and Sumava Resorts begin to experience some
flooding.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a

* urban and small stream flood advisory for...
central Will County in northeastern Illinois...
southeastern DuPage County in northeastern Illinois...
Cook County in northeastern Illinois...
Northern Lake County in northwestern Indiana...

* until 845 am CDT

* at 546 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chicago, Naperville, Cicero, Hammond, Gary, Bolingbrook, Orland
Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Berwyn, Wheaton, Oak Park, Downers
Grove, Elmhurst, Lombard, Romeoville, Calumet City, Chicago
Heights, East Chicago and Schererville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
