Watches & Warnings

Gale Warning, Low Water Advisory, Small Craft Advisory
Issued: 3:57 AM CST Jan. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Gale Warning now in effect until 9 am CST this morning...
... Low water advisory remains in effect until noon CST today...
... Small Craft Advisory in effect from 9 am this morning to 6 PM
CST this evening...

The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Small
Craft Advisory... which is in effect from 9 am this morning to
6 PM CST this evening.

* Winds... 30 to 35 knots with gusts to 40 knots this early morning
before subsiding to 20 to 25 knots by this afternoon.

* Waves/seas... 4 to 7 feet.

* Water levels... up to 2 feet below normal.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A low water advisory means water levels are expected to be
significantly below average. Mariners should use extreme caution
and transit at the slowest safe navigable speed to minimize
impact.

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 20 to 33 knots
are expected to produce hazardous wave conditions to small craft.
Inexperienced mariners... especially those operating smaller
vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions.
