Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 2:43 PM CDT Jul. 21, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning now in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday...
... Heat advisory is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has cancelled the heat
advisory. An excessive heat warning has replaced the heat
advisory. This warning includes southern Illinois, southeast
Missouri, and extreme western Kentucky from Paducah west.

* Timing... through Sunday evening.

* Heat index values... peak heat indices will range from 110 to 115
degrees again on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, heat indices
will peak between 100 and 110, depending on clouds and possible
thunderstorms. In addition, overnight lows will be only in the
mid 70s.

* Temperature... actual high temperatures will be in the mid 90s
Saturday, and the lower 90s Sunday.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high
humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related
illness. The very Young, the elderly, those without air
conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor
activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors
will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
