... Heat advisory in effect from 10 am to 8 PM EDT Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a heat
advisory, which is in effect from 10 am to 8 PM EDT Sunday.

* Areas affected: portions of central and eastern Virginia,
northeast North Carolina, and the lower Virginia Eastern Shore.

* Maximum forecast heat index values: 105 to 109 degrees.

* Timing: peak heat indices will continue through late this
afternoon and will again occur during the afternoon hours
Sunday. Some locations near the coast may see values peak by
late morning through early afternoon.

* Impacts: prolonged exposure or any strenuous activity may lead
to heat related illnesses that require immediate medical
attention.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

Take extra precautions... if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work... the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.

... A line of strong thunderstorms will affect Accomack and northern
Northampton counties...

At 847 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from near Tangier to 15 miles northwest of
Exmore to 7 miles northeast of Deltaville. Movement was east at 25
mph.

Wind gusts in excess of 30 mph are possible with these storms.

Up to 1 inch of rainfall is possible with these storms.

These storms will be near...
Tangier around 855 PM EDT.
Onancock around 925 PM EDT.
Onley around 930 PM EDT.
Parksley around 935 PM EDT.
Exmore and Willis Wharf around 945 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by these storms include Melfa... Harborton...
Jamesville... Wachapreague... Wardtown... Accomac... Nelsonia...
Locustville... Modest Town and Pungoteague.

Motorists should use extra caution in the vicinity of these storms.
Be prepared for rapid changes in weather and Road conditions. Heavy
rain could cause ponding of water on roads... and possible minor
flooding of ditches and poor drainage areas.

Lightning can strike more than 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.

At 836 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from near Newark to near Pocomoke City to near
Lawsonia. Movement was east at 35 mph.

Wind gusts in excess of 30 mph are possible with these storms.

Rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch are possible with these storms.

These storms will be near...
Snow Hill and Newark around 840 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by these storms include Horntown, Boxiron,
Mappsville, Cokesbury, goodwill, Public Landing, Greenbackville,
Ironshire, Rehobeth and Saxis.
