Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 3:55 AM EST Dec. 3, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement in effect from 7 am EST this morning
through this afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a beach
hazards statement for rough surf and a moderate risk of rip
currents... which is in effect from 7 am EST this morning through
this afternoon.

* Hazards... breezy northeast winds will produce rough surf. Life
threatening rip currents are also possible.

* Timing... today.

* Location... Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, Saint Lucie and
Martin County beaches.

* Potential impacts... rough surf and a moderate risk of strong rip
currents.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Surf zone conditions will pose a moderate hazard. Breaking waves
can knock you down and make you susceptible to seaward flowing rip
currents. Only enter the surf near a lifeguard.

If caught in a rip current remain calm. Don't fight the current.
Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape... face the shore and call or wave for help. If tired,
float or tread water until out of the rip current.
