Special Statement
Issued: 3:26 AM EDT Aug. 17, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Hot and humid conditions this afternoon across northeast
Georgia... upstate South Carolina... and the Charlotte Metro area...

Temperatures are expected to rise into the lower to middle 90s
across much of the region this afternoon. High humidity will
combine with the hot temperatures to produce heat index values of
100 degrees or higher across most of northeast Georgia, upstate
South Carolina, and the Charlotte Metro area for much of the
afternoon. The heat index may reach 103 to 104 in lower Piedmont
sections well southeast of Interstate 85.

The hot and humid conditions could contribute to heat stress
during prolonged periods of exposure or outdoor exertion. Take
steps to limit the amount of time spent outdoors this afternoon,
especially if engaged in vigorous activity. While outside, wear
light-colored clothing and drink plenty of fluids.
