Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 10:43 AM EDT Jul. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening...

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued an
excessive heat warning... which is in effect until 8 PM EDT this
evening.

* Heat index values... up to 112 due to temperatures in the mid
90s... and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

* Timing... the highest sustained heat index values will occur in
the mid to late afternoon hours.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high
relative humidity will result with the increasing frequency of
heat related illnesses across the advised area. If you suspect
someone having a heat stroke... call 911 immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that dangerously hot temperatures
will occur. The combination of heat and high humidity will
combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses
are likely. To reduce the risk of heat illness during outdoor work
the occupational safety and health administration recommends
scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned
environments.
