Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 1:58 PM EDT Apr. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* all of central North Carolina, including the following counties,
Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Cumberland, Davidson, Durham,
Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Granville, Guilford, Halifax,
Harnett, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, Orange,
person, Randolph, Richmond, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Vance,
wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson.

* Through Tuesday morning

* widespread rain will continue tonight. The rain will become
heavy, especially in the Piedmont later tonight. The heavy rain
will spread east across all the region on Monday and Monday
night. Storm total rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are
expected.

* The long duration of the rain through Monday night or Tuesday
morning will saturate the ground. Periods of heavy rain will
lead to rapid runoff, likely producing flooding of creeks and
streams. Main Stem rivers will likely see significant rises in
the water levels by Monday, including the Yadkin, haw, Neuse,
tar, Roanoke, and Cape Fear.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for
possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding
should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
