The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect from noon to 8 PM EDT Tuesday.

* Temperatures... highs will be in the mid to upper 90s.

* Heat indices... 103 to 107 degrees.

* Impacts... this heat and humidity will lead to an increased
risk of heat related illnesses... especially among vulnerable
individuals such as the sick and elderly... those exerting
themselves outdoors... and those without air conditioning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that hot temperatures and high humidity
will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay
out of the sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors.

At 509 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
strong thunderstorm near Durham... moving northeast at 5 mph.

Torrential rainfall and wind gusts as high as 50 mph will be
possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Durham... Chapel HIll... Bethesda... Gorman... rollingview Marina...
Parkwood... research Triangle... Falls Lake and Jordan Lake.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Seek shelter in a nearby building or vehicle. Wind gusts as high as
50 mph are capable of knocking down small or weakened trees and
blowing around trash cans... potted plants... lawn furniture and other
light outdoor objects.

Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in
standing water on area roadways. Drivers are urged to slow down and
use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning.
