The National Weather Service in Charleston West Virginia has extended
the

* Flood Warning for...
Dickenson County in southwestern Virginia...
Buchanan County in southwestern Virginia...

* until 1245 am EDT Monday

* at 615 PM EDT, moderate rain continues to fall across southwest
Virginia with more rain expected through tonight. Area creeks,
streams, culverts, and roadside ditches will have a difficult time
handling any additional rainfall at this time and some flooding
has already been reported by local authorities.

* Low water crossings and roads near creeks and streams will
experience flooding, as well as other low lying areas. Poorly
maintained culverts and roadside ditches will also flood. Debris
flows are possible as well. Road closures are expected.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Clintwood, Grundy, Haysi, breaks Interstate, Davenport, John
Flannagan Lake, Big Rock, Trammel, Paw Paw, Clinchco, Oakwood,
Stacy, Nora, Vansant, Hurley, McClure and Roseann.

Additional rainfall amounts of a half inch to an inch are possible
in the warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

... Flash Flood Watch now in effect through Monday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia,
including the following areas, in southwest Virginia, Buchanan
and Dickenson. In southern West Virginia, McDowell and
Wyoming.

* Into Monday afternoon

* another wave of heavy rainfall is expected tonight into Monday.
This could lead to flash flooding, particularly along flood
prone creeks and streams, and adjacent low lying areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should warnings be issued.
