Watches & Warnings

Flash Flood Watch
Issued: 10:07 AM EDT Jul. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday morning...

The National Weather Service in Charleston has expanded the

* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of southwest Virginia
and southern West Virginia... including the following areas...
in southwest Virginia... Buchanan and Dickenson. In southern
West Virginia... McDowell... Raleigh and Wyoming.

* Through Friday morning

* the ground in the watch area is quite wet from rounds of heavy
rain during the past few days. Total rainfall amounts of 2 to 3
inches with locally higher amounts are possible through
tonight.

* If this amount of rainfall is realized... some areas may see
flash flooding of small streams and creeks and roads...
especially in low lying and poor drainage areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
