The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has extended the

* flood advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
the city of Covington in west central Virginia...
central Alleghany County in west central Virginia...
the city of Buena Vista in west central Virginia...
the city of Lexington in west central Virginia...
Rockbridge County in west central Virginia...
Botetourt County in west central Virginia...

* until 745 PM EDT

* at 325 PM EDT, at 320 PM EDT, river gages indicated minor flooding
along portions of the cowpasture, calfpasture and James River, as
well as some creeks and streams from near Covington into the
southern Shenandoah Valley.

This flooding is expected to only affect agricultural and low lying
areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...

Buena Vista...
Covington...
Clifton Forge...
and Buchanan.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to noon EDT
Friday.

* Locations... southeast West Virginia, southwest Virginia near and
west of the crest of the Blue Ridge.

* Hazards... gusty winds combined with saturated soils.

* Winds... west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* Timing... this evening through noon Friday.

* Impacts... falling trees and downed power lines.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is usually issued when sustained winds are
forecast to be 31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57
mph. In this case, we are more concerned about wind gusts of 30
to 40 mph Downing trees in saturated soils.
