Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 1:06 PM EST Feb. 23, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from Friday evening through Sunday
evening...

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of New York and southern Vermont,
including the following areas, in New York, Hamilton,
Montgomery, northern Fulton, northern Herkimer, northern
Saratoga, northern Warren, northern Washington, southeast
Warren, southern Fulton, southern Herkimer, and southern
Washington. In southern Vermont, Bennington, eastern Windham,
and western Windham.

* From Friday evening through Sunday evening

* a strong cold front will track across our region Saturday with
locally heavy rainfall, up to an inch in some areas. Warm
temperatures ahead of the cold front will cause snow across the
region to melt. The combination of rain and snow melt is
expected to produce runoff into area rivers, resulting in
possible minor flooding this weekend. Flooding is also possible
in poor drainage and low lying areas, especially where snow
blocks storm drains.

* Areas of the western Mohawk Valley, the upper Hudson, the
southern Adirondacks, Lake George Saratoga region and southern
Vermont are the most vulnerable to minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
