Special Statement
Issued: 4:19 PM EDT Jul. 28, 2016 – National Weather Service

... A cluster of strong thunderstorms will affect central Essex and
northwestern Addison counties...

At 414 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated a cluster of strong
thunderstorms over east-central Essex County. The strongest of these
storms was located over Keene Valley. Movement was east at 20 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with this
storm, along with occasional lightning. Doppler radar estimates that
portions of the area received up to 2 inches of rain especially
between Mineville and Westport New York from earlier thunderstorms.
Additional heavy rainfall may trigger ponding of water on roads or
localized minor flooding.

Locations impacted include...
Addison... ferrisburgh... Westport... Port Henry... Elizabethtown...
Panton... d a r State Park... Keene Valley... Ferrisburg... Kingsland Bay
State Park... Mount Marcy... North Elba... Moriah... Lewis... Keene...
Partridge Harbor... Louis Clearing Bay... Coffin Point... Moore Point
and Potash Bay.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm... and may cause
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

If you are on or near Lake Champlain... get out of the water and move
indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember... lightning can strike out to
10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder...
you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter
now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
