Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 2:46 PM EST Feb. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch now in effect through Monday morning...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* portions of south central Maine, southwest Maine, west central
Maine, and western Maine, including the following areas, in
south central Maine, Kennebec and southern Somerset. In
southwest Maine, Androscoggin. In west central Maine, Central
Somerset. In western Maine, northern Franklin, northern
Oxford, southern Franklin, and southern Oxford.

* Through Monday morning

* recent warm temperatures have generated significant melting of
snowpack. This melting combined with recent rainfall will result
in elevated water levels on area rivers and streams. The
elevated water levels is causing ice breakup and movement. River
levels have still not crested and are expected to continue to
rise overnight.

* The primary flood threat today will be from ice jam related
flooding. Ice jams both form and dissolve rapidly, and may
form at any time with little if any advance warning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
