Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 2:57 PM EST Jan. 21, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch in effect from Tuesday morning through late
Tuesday night...

The National Weather Service in gray has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of Maine and New Hampshire, including
the following areas, in Maine, Androscoggin, coastal
Cumberland, coastal Waldo, coastal York, interior Cumberland,
interior Waldo, interior York, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln,
Sagadahoc, and southern Oxford. In New Hampshire, Belknap,
Cheshire, coastal Rockingham, eastern Hillsborough, interior
Rockingham, Merrimack, northern Carroll, northern Grafton,
southern Carroll, southern Grafton, Strafford, Sullivan, and
western and central Hillsborough.

* From Tuesday morning through late Tuesday night

* ice jams combined with some run off and snow melt.

* There are several ice jams across southern and central New
Hampshire into western Maine that remain in place. As rainfall
and snow melt enters the rivers, rising water levels may allow
for those jams to break up and reform. Minor flooding is
possible, especially along portions of the Ashuelot,
piscataquog, Saco, and Kennebec rivers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
