I started my assignment for today splitting kindling.
Near the middle of this cedar round from one tree we felled a year ago was a dark stain with a nail in it.
When I counted the growth rings beyond the head of the nail they numbered 19.
Let's see where that puts us:
Some time in about '93 someone drove this nail into this tree.
Though I'm usually the designated carpenter around here and other places I have no recollection of spiking any trees anywhere and in '93 I spent some time in Africa.
Maybe the kids or some of their friends heard about saving trees and damaging chain saws by "spiking" trees.
Come to think: #1 daughter did get herself arrested for protesting logging north of here around that time.
There is another dark stain near the felling cut. I'll have to go out and see if there is a matching stain on any of the stumps.

Woke up in the new (to us) RV and wandered out to snap this photo. It looks north up the Okanagan Valley. I spent a good portion of my early years on this farm. Our old "Home Place" was about 7 miles away more or less in the center of the pic. The farm was purchased in about 1886 by my great grandfather, sold and then bought back in the '50s by my aunt and uncle.

Had to dig back in my folder for this picture. I have not been getting any interesting pictures lately. Maybe due to the weather.
