Hi Patti!

It has been a while, hasn't it? Your pool looks great. When is the pool party?

I've been extremely busy trying to complete my degree by this December. Been full time schooling for two years now, along with working, of course. And family too. One day I will be able to breathe!

Still in Germany, for now anyway. It looks like I will be forced back to the U.S. next year. The Department of Defense has a "5 year rule" saying civilian government workers must rotate back to the U.S. after five years. I will have to go back for at least two years before reapplying to return overseas again. Luckily, I am in a position to get a higher pay grade job upon returning, IF I complete my degree by then. Looks like it will happen, though.

Sounds like you had a great time in MS. Please do post pictures with everyone in them.

Luckily, my mother in Pensacola did not have any damage to her house during the flooding last month. Officially, there was over 20 inches of rain at the airport in two days, with some private measurements of almost 30 inches. There was a lot of damage to roads and bridges, though, with repairs still ongoing.

Here's to a quiet hurricane season this year. Certainly do not need any more rain!

Good morning! Christmassanta, Ylee, Sandi, Bug, Skye and anyone else I missed.

It was a fantastic weekend. I have to replace my Christmas Eve family photo with one we got in Mississippi with ALL of us in it. All of the kids and grands with my smom, Patty and my Dad, Papa Joe.

Those Grands had the time of their life in the wilderness, camping, fishing, swimming in a Mississippi Red Clay muddy water of Enid lake, fish fry at Papa Joe's on Sunday, the BIG Birthday Party with about 70 or maybe more relatives that came in for the event. I saw family I have not seen in years and some in decades. So many pictures after sorting through over 200 I deleted a bunch of bad ones or dups and still have around 130 I loaded on FB but I know I can only put about 20 here. I may open a new blog thread for those pictures.

Also the pool and deck are nearly finished. Only one spot on the deck that needs to be corrected and it is on a corner.
The pool looks great but the hot tub has to be resurfaced; way too many cracks and errors and the manager of the company agreed it needs to be redone.

After that is all done this weekend Hubby and I will start our work. Pressure cleaning all the dust in the screened in patio and outside (dust is everywhere from all the sawing of the tiles) and then cleaning up the old furniture and setting the place back up again.... then the yard work begins. I have not touched my garden in over a year and it looks like it!

Anyway, we all left Monday morning and the 3 of us who drove back did it all in one trip, about a 15 hour drive to get back home late Monday night. Of course yesterday we were exhausted and had to unpack and I did accomplish about 8 loads of laundry...I even made myself get it all put away.

So many great Family memories were made over the weekend. Even Betsey, who does not like camping at all, did ok.... she is not really thrilled that both of her boys had such a great time being out door in the woods camping kids. She was horrified when Baron jumped in that muddy lake water with all his cousins... plus he was holding worms and caught fish and doing everything he saw his cousins do. )Plus when we went to my Dad's on Sunday and they all got to ride that old 4 wheeler in the woods they were all squealing with delight and kept wanting more and more rides. All us adults love to ride that 4 wheeler in the woods too. Most country folks have one of those these days to help out around the garden and for taking trash cans down to the main road for pick up.

Scott told Betsey she has two boys, who obviously LOVE the wilderness and all it entails and she needs to accept it and get use to it and he wants to do more of that stuff with them when they get back home. Also Scott has decided he needs to buy a 4 wheeler for him and the boys! LOL

And yes, Ylee, the Cards are doing pretty good and this Cardinal/Yankee series is exciting. We lost the first one in extra innings, but I think we won last night, when I went to sleep the Cards were killing them but I don't know the final score.

And the kids and grands drove into Oxford, MS to visit the Old Miss Campus and saw a Memorial Day service so they attended which was very good for the Grands (and the kids) to witness.

The trip was not only fun it was also educational. You will not believe the pictures I have of those grands having such a great time together. Some of my cousins were there with their grands so the "3rd Cousins" got to meet for the first time and loved it.

Thanks again for all your comments and I hope to start a new blog thread soon with pictures.
My computer has been running so slow for the past few months and now it is even slower and I am trying to figure out why. I think I have everything deleted and closed that I do not use but still really slow sometimes. May have to have one of the kids come over and take a look. Once I started to delete programs I thought I did not need and deleted a bunch of stuff I did need and had to reinstall again.
Oh well, never said I was good with the computer technical stuff!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi Gamma,
With everyone enjoying Memorial Day I thought I might put down in words what we all need to remember about the real reason for Memorial Day. If you look at old Santa's WU photo you will see me with a couple of my Marine Corps friends.Every part of the freedoms we enjoy we owe to our military. I hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts below with you and your friends. God Bless and I bid you peace.

In just a short time
It will be tomorrow
A day of remembrance
A day of sorrow

It’s not about beer
And barbecued ribs
It’s about widowed wives
With babies in cribs

It’s about young heroes
And those who died
Of Moms and Dads
And the tears they cried

It’s the price of freedom
You’ve heard that before
Their lives the cost
It’s the scourge of war

Their voices now silent
Yet what would they say
If they could speak
This Memorial Day

Of duty and honor
And country first
Haters of freedom
Their souls be cursed

We fought for our country
And our lives we have lost
But to protect your freedom
It was worth the cost

Their futures now over
And ours assured
They gave their lives
Our freedoms secured

So tomorrow remember
With your family and friends
The souls of our heroes
In Gods care we commend

And think of their children
With no Mom or Dad
No more hugs and kisses
How very sad

So when you look at the flag
The Red White and Blue
Think of the heroes now gone
And know they died for you

WOW... the pool and patio look great, Gams! It looks so much better than the bricks and what? Concrete? that was there before.

You did good with your selections of paving, water line tile and pool surfacing. Very nice.

Hope you're enjoying your trip and visit with Papa Joe. Safe travels!

I just took a picture of the nearly finished refurbished pool. Still a few cosmetic items to take care of but they are ready to fill it up now. Then it will take 3 days to balance the water and some things they have to do after it is filled up. But it should be ready when we get back home again. We love the new look.

Hi everyone, just a very fast post. Ylee, Bug, Skye and LT, good to read your comments and thanks for stopping by.
Crazy week so much to do to get ready for our trip back to Water Valley, MS (Enid Lake) since it is "camping in cabin" we have to bring a lot of stuff.

And the pool is coming along, they just put the water hose in to start filling it up and will balance the water over the next 3 days and finish up all the little details. Then the "real" work for us starts when we return, after I "test" out the water of course. I have to be the first one to jump in.

It looks beautiful. I have not had time to post anymore construction pictures but hope to post the "after" pictures when I return.

You all have a Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!!!

As I pass by any of you that live along the route I will wave in your direction!

Can't wait to see the completed pool project. Just found out my wife and I are driving down to Delray Beach FL. for the last 2 weeks of July, to the condo she has there with her sister. We are going to put in a new kitchen--by Home Depot, so we want to be there while they are working on it. The condo is 35 years old so it needs it. Hope I'm making sense, feel a little "loopy" just had a tooth pulled, going to lay down awhile.

Hi, Gams.

It does sound like a mess but it should be finished up and, hopefully, before you have to head up the road to see Papa Joe. Wish him happy birthday and give him a hug for me.

Been a bit down, lately, with Dad's birthday coming up. It was the last time I saw him.

I can sympathize with the difficulty in dealing with your MIL. I went through a similar situation; you know who I'm talking about and I won't get into that. It'll shoot my BP sky high.

I need new outdoor furniture badly, too, and can't/won't pay what the stores want for new. $40.00 for a folding webbed chair?! The plastic chairs are running $20 - $25 each and I need six.

The Kmart closest to me went belly up this spring. I was hoping to get a deal on their outdoor chairs but they never came down enough on the price to suit me. In fact, their clearance prices didn't come down much at all, except on clothing. I went over there once a week for close to 6 weeks and finally gave up. Birdseed, some potting soil and a small birdfeeder and that was the sum total of what I ended up with from there.

I should go over to the Habitat for Humanity resale store on Johns Island and see what they have. That's where the rich folks at Kiawah and Seabrook take their stuff, when they redecorate.

Or just make do with the ratty things I have for one more summer. When you need something, it can sometimes be hard to find it. When you don't need it, you're tripping over it.

Good morning everyone. Ylee, yes at least the Cards found a way to be back over 500 again but they do need a lot more improving and soon. There are a few teams that are really doing well from the start this season.

Oh I did have a real mess for a while but except for a few corrections they need to come back and make the decking is all done and it looks great. I hope they get the inside of the pool cleaned up and resurfaced next Mon and Tue... they told us it would be completed by next Wed except for balancing the water. We are leaving early Thursday and really wanted it all done before we left. Do not want workers here when we lock up the house and are away. I mean we have neighbors who will bring in our mail and check on everything everyday and of course our neighbors all look out for each other, especially when some one is not at home. But we hope weather permitting it gets finished early next week. Then when we return our part will start. All the real clean up and I need to scrub and repaint some of the furniture. This remodel went WAY over budget so no money for new furniture at this time... and my garden has not been touched in over a year now and it is a mess.

I have not picked up a paint brush in over 2 weeks or more..... between the kids moving out (good thing but they still have both closets and rooms full of stuff they still need to move along with the gold fish) and of course my hubby's parents take up a lot of time.

So busy around here...but what else is new!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Boy, gamma, you have a mess there, don't you? can you visualize the finished product? That'll help!

Sorry to hear the inlaws are giving you problems; hopefully your MIL will see the light before she or her husband gets in a bad way, and has to go to a nursing home.

Cards are still treading water; starting pitching is OK, but the bullpen has been porous, and batting has been weak. I see some glimmers of improvement, but they need to kick it in gear before too much of the season has passed.

Take care!

Wabit, that is so true even down here. We have waited 2 years to do this after we were ready. Our company is working on 14 jobs right now because down here the "rainy season" will start soon and hard to get it done when it rains everyday. We had hoped to get started earlier but with the kids/grands/dogs here we could not destroy our back yard and pool so had to wait until the kids moved out and took their dogs. then a 3 week delay in getting the travertine we picked out. But it is finally coming together. I was asked to do a picture "before during and after" blog here so I will start doing it. The final touches may be awhile, we have to go away a week for Memorial day weekend for my Dad's 80th birthday and then when we come back we hope to start "our part" of the renovation. Thanks for leaving a post and glad your brother is staying busy with work. A lot of people are finally getting stuff they had planned on doing but put it off a few years done now. Nice to hear from you.

Happy Mothers Day, Gams.

That brunch sounds nice. I agree that it's probably a good idea to all sit outside, even if it's a bit warm. The kids will be much happier, than if they were inside and having to be on their very, very best behavior, so as to not disturb the other guests!

I've had two busy weekends and haven't gotten around the blogs much. I don't have much time at work, during lunch, so my weekends are when I hang out here.

How're the kids doing, with getting settled into their new place?

I can imagine the mess outside, with all the work going on. BUT.... it's outside and not inside, so that's a plus!

Hello Gamma,
I think I know a thing or two about gifts. I am sure most of the gifts I gave you when you were just a child are long ago broken, destroyed or thrown away. However there is one gift that never is destroyed. It is a gift that is so powerful that it cannot be destroyed by even the most powerful army. What gift is it that I am speaking of? I am speaking of love, but not just any love. I am speaking of a Mothers love. The entire world cannot break a mother’s love. Even if our mothers are now home in Heaven. Each of us still can feel the power of her love. Only a Mother would stand between her child and the most ferocious animal alive and consider it a fair fight. Only a Mother would sacrifice her own life without a moment’s pause, to save the life of her child. So to you Gamma, and all who visit your blog, Old Santa Claus wishes every Mother a most blessed and Happy Mother’s Day.

Good morning and Thank you Ylee and Sandi for stopping by and leaving a comment.

And Happy Mother's Day tomorrow to all my friends here who are Mothers or GrandMothers or even those that are special Aunts!

Like we have done for the past few years we are going to the nearby country club to have a Mother's Day brunch. We are so many because daughter in law's and son in law's family join us every year so we can all be together. So the resturant reserves the outside patio area for our family. With so many and the kids we are safer outside than inside where it is so crowded and the kids would be miserable. So we put up with no A/C but we do have ceiling fans and it is in the morning before it gets too hot.

Yes, they started some Demo work last week, the travertine pavers were delivered Thursday and Monday they start doing the pool tile line and the coping ... they had to replace the simmer because it needed to be raised about 2 " for the new decking, same for the over flow line. of course, added expense we hoped would not happen but Murphy's Law and all.

It will look so good when finished.
And it is nice to have some quiet time but I have been so busy lately and still have the kids here a few times a week. They switched Ellen's schedule to 7am so the earliest the kids can be taken to school is 7:30 so two mornings she brings them to me around 630 and I get them ready for school and take them.... and the other mornings the other Nanny does this .... hope her schedule gets changed back to normal times soon. Plus when Ellen has private swim lessons after work someone has to pick up the kids so they don't get left at after school care too late. Every now and then Christian can get off work on time and do it but he works late so often.

I am taking pictures everyday of the process and I will post them here when I can...before, during process then after...

You all have a great weekend and again Happy Mother's Day!

Huri, you and I were posting at the same time. So happy to hear from you again. Yes I am feeling better, the thyroid meds are working for me and my blood work is still good. Of course I am always doing several things at once and I am very tired by the end of the day so go to bed early...but I tend to get up early also...which I do not understand I have never been a morning person.

Yes it is beautiful down here; we had a very warm and mild winter with more rain than normal which has helped with the spring fire season... we are "dry" down here on the moisture map which is normal but not at all as dry as we usually are this time of year...
It has been a very nice spring, but so much to do lately... I swear I am busier today than when I worked full time, but I like what I am doing these days.. things that actually matter!

Thanks for stopping by...Take care of yourself and keep in touch.

Skye, good luck on your barn renovation, it is hard to go through but so worth it afterwards. and Great Job on the White Rabbits!
Ylee, good morning to you.

Happy Friday everyone. going to be another busy day here and I need to get out of the house soon to run some errands... then a few afternoon task. I have been trying to take on a project or two everyday to get them checked off one by one.

Then tonight one of my neighbor ladies and I are going out on a girls night out. Taking a cab so neither of us have to drive and we can both have drinks. Getting into our tight jeans and cowboy boots and going to a Country Western Club for a while after we grab a bite to eat. Should be fun. Doubt we stay out very late; I seem to be going to bed very early these days and getting up way too early.

and the pool demolition started yesterday...and I am getting pictures everyday.

You all have a great weekend!

I've got barn renovation going on in my backyard. It got new doors last weekend. I'm still in sort of awe after what they looked like for so long..

Hoping to complete a May White Rabbits times three before the day is through.. It become an exercise to force art to happen at least once a month. Couldn't be busier than a Thursday.

edit.. Pulled it off:)

I started taking pictures of the pool make over...yesterday I got the "before pictures" and while my pool normally does not look as bad as the before pictures because ... well just because I do better than that.. I took them anyway.

today I took pictures of the pool with most of the water drained out... they have to leave a little so the pool does not pop out of the ground... tomorrow starts demolition and it will be a dusty mess.. I was told to get things that cannot handle dust out of the way... all our outside stuff can be hosed off but I still pulled everything back as much as I could and put the cushions in the patio.

Hubby wants to me to take daily pictures also....

Hi LT, good to see your comment. Down here in SE Fla, we have had summer temps and summer weather for nearly 2 months now, all except the afternoon rain that we will start getting in June...We have highs in the mid to upper 80s and some days 90...and lows at night not even getting down to 75... and I am loving it!

We have been lucky down here near the tropics and had a very mild winter.
But those in North and even Central Florida have been wet for over a year now... and yes, Panhandle got over 10" of rain last week and as of this morning close to 24" of rain. Their damage is crazy, roads washed out and people being rescued from roof tops even some deaths. and Central Fla has gotten some rain, more than normal...
But down here on the SE Tip of the Florida Sand Bar we have had a beautiful winter... even had enough rain that the fire season has not been bad at all, wetter than normal dry season and that is a blessing.

I feel so bad for those in areas that just cannot get Spring to happen in their area, which is most of the country.
Wishing you spring soon and Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment!

Hope all is well in your world and spring will come soon... I know my daughter that lives outside of Boston hopes Spring comes soon. they are so "over" winter already!

Also, I see the NW part of your state is getting "hammered" with rain today, and now some strong T. Storms are breaking out in N. Central Florida and South Central areas too. Be careful in case they move SE towards you.

Hi GAMMA, you titled your blog "Summer Time" but up here, it's far from it! Yesterday we had some rain, and it was only 48F for a high. And windy too, from the East. Today is even worse, Only around 43F all day, rain, over an inch so far, with a lot more to come, breezy too, again from the East. Finally, tomorrow, Thursday, a warm front will come through, should get to the low 70's, but the chance for T. Storms in the afternoon, and Thursday night. Outside of a few nice days, maybe 6-7, it's been a very cool spring up here.

Ylee, yes St Louis Cards are doing OK but not as good as spring training said that would. But they are still over 500 and the season is just started.
Yes, I must say I have really enjoyed the quiet this morning.... and getting so much done. I really enjoyed it the short period of time I had it in the past....but I was working full time and baby sitting on my days off...
so this is really my first time since Rylee was born I do not have kids running around here on days I am home...and Rylee will be 9 in July!

Hubby told me to get before and after pictures of the pool. We already moved all the furniture and took down the umbrellas that were bolted into the deck.... we will not do that on the new expensive travertine deck that will go down; we will go back to the old fashion umbrellas that have to be in a holder.
So right now the pool and deck looks terrible but that will make really good before and after pictures!
Maybe that will be the pictures I put in this blog header... I will take them as the renovation takes place...and we can watch the progress.

Glad you stopped by.

1st! That guy who wrote "Silence is golden" way back when knew what he was talking about, didn't he? :' ) I'm sure it'll be a big adjustment now that everyone's gone!

Pics of the pool reno would be nice..... :' )

Cardinals are playing OK, but could play a lot better, IMO! Leaving a lot of runs on the bases!

Have a good day!

Good morning everyone and Bug thanks for your latest comment. I saw where your area was also under the gun yesterday. Today a lot of North Florida will be getting the strong storms.

Thank goodness so far all our family in Arkansas and Mississippi are OK. They got lucky with the tornadoes and severe weather all around their areas.

It is nice to have a quiet house this morning. Of course I had to take hubby to work at 6:30 am this morning because "The Beast" is in the shop for some under warranty work he wants corrected. But once I got home, it was so quite reading the newspaper out on patio watching the birds and squirrels eating at the feeders. No TV on yet, no radio, just peace and quiet. But I do have a busy day ahead of me as I do most days.

The kids will probably still need next weekend to get more of their stuff out of the house; all their hanging clothes are still in the closets and the gold fish are still here and still more stuff but that is OK. After everything is moved out I will clean those two bedrooms really good and shampoo the carpet so it will make do until we can get new flooring in there.
Christian even took the two dogs last night... it is weird for hubby and I to realize we no longer have to make sure all the bedroom doors in the house are shut to keep the dogs out!

It will taking a while to get use to being empty nesters again... but the kids will still come over a lot. Yesterday hubby picked up Nolan early from his preschool because "he had a bad morning and wanted to come to Gamma & Poppy's house" ... I know Rylee is sad to leave... they are both excited about their new home but they loved living here with us... but they will still be here a lot, especially on school holidays and I am sure they will still come over on Sundays.

We get started on the Pool/Deck/Patio renovation on Wednesday .. That will be a 3 week mess in the back but it will be worth it. Then we leave for Mississippi end of May for Papa Joe's 80th birthday. We are all going and he will be so surprised to see the kids and grand kids arrive. He knows we are coming.

Hope this new blog thread works and you have all have a great week.

Stay safe if the storms are coming your way...they are bad ones.
