Mid February & Nice Weather

By: seflagamma , 7:29 PM GMT on February 10, 2012

Feb. 26: Today is a very dear friend's Birthday, LakeWorthFinn! She is one of us who join in this community in summer of 2005!!!!
Happy Birthday Finn!!!

Feb 17, 2012: See my post # 54...
My private email was hacked so many of you got
a email from me that was really not from me.
see below. I apologize and hope I fixed the problem.

Feb 13, 2012: Daughter, Betsey, put it on her FB wall so I guess they are going public and it is OK I can post it here now... We have another Grandson coming in July!!! Baron will be having a little baby brother!!!!!

Boys seems to be what our kids and nieces and nephews are producing in this generation.. my generation was mostly girls.. then the births of our kids's & their cousins were a good mix.. now all babies being born in past 9 yrs in our family are boys (except for Rylee)!!!
This is the way it goes and it is fine by me!!!

Feb 10, 2012: WOW this year if just flying by.
I saw on line somewhere that our "winter" here in
South Florida has been "normal" this year.

Temps have been where they are suppose to be for us;
it is NOT normal to have winters in South Florida
like the previous two winters that were so bitter cold
and did so much damage to our tropical environment.
This winter has been perfect so far!!! I am loving it.

------------------------------------------------- -------

Here are my "weather" maps

I found out, these maps are measuring fire hazard and soil moisture, not necessary drought according to rainfall.

Dear Gams, please post the cruise photos here for those of us - Linda, Bug Ylee and I to name a few, who don't have FB accounts.

I completely deleted mine about four months ago as I wasn't happy with what they were doing.

I am so glad the family had a great time with you over the weekend, I bet you were glad to see them. Will you get to see them again, before the new baby is born?

Hope your Wednesday is going OK. I have been to the hairdressers and had the crop put back! I hadn't had it cut for about three months so it was long enough to fasten in bunches! lol

Back for a minute..

BF, you are welcome.. I actually got the message on FB and on my person email..
then I checked my calendar and here so was able
to make sure Finn's friends knew...
Thanks for stopping by.

Karen, thanks... I know I was probably being petty but just a few years ago, it was a "big deal"
but in today's world not so much.
I am burnt out as all of you know...but I cannot leave yet unless it is a "severance package"..
if not that I will have to hang in there a few more years.

Scott, we have had a winter this year like in the "old days" before "Global cooling" arrived! LOL

Back when I moved to Florida in Late 1979 and 80's it was alway wonderful winters..
we "bragged" about them to our friends back in Memphis!
But then we got some really cold winters in 1987 for one.. then a few in the 1990's..
and 2000's..
we know the past two winters were record breaking cold winters....
so happy to be "back to normal" here in SE Fla!
But the Panhandle does not get nearly as warm as we do.. even the West/Gulf Coast of
South Florida does
not get as warm as we do in winter.. not sure why.
Thanks for stopping by.

Ylee, off and on rain but still a great time. 5 little cousins ranging from ages almost 9 to
just turned 2 were running around like crazy. Swinging on the trapeze, playing on the hammock,
and just playing like kids/cousins.... they did not get to go swimming which was a bummer for them.

It was a great Family day.

Jeff, Congratulations on the success of the 2012 "Tea and in the Garden" Hopefully I can attend next year.
And yes, I am very proud of my 25 yrs of Service.
My "company" is doing great considering..
I am only tired and burnt out and sick of my immediate management team...
But I am very proud of my 25 yrs.. pretty soon you are not going to see that happen anylonger..
My company no longer really wants or cultivates long time employees... they now seem to encourage "turnover"..

NEw, I know your winter has been very mild.. actually this morning when I told them they were going home tonight to probably snow tomorrow, They were sort of excited. They said they really have not had much snow at all this winter..and if it is going to be cold may as well be snowing!
Of course your winter last year was bitter cold and all the snow caused so many problems...
They have a "layover" so they will get in later than they wanted...but at least the really bad weather will not come until tomorrow.. I hope.

Patti!!! So good to hear from you. Glad when you stop by WU from time to time you stop by my blog...
So you hope to "retire" by years end??? that is great.
Very happy for you!!!

I hope to find time tomorrow to set up a new blog thread... you know I did not even get pictures on Sunday.

I have a few of Betsey's "cruise" pictures I put on FB and I may load some of them here...

We will see... This is a "long" week at work....
and every week is getting harder and harder..

I hope to check in from time to time.. I have not been out blog hopping in so long;
I hope all is good with most of you.... and if there is something going on I am unaware,
please send me mail!

25 years huh? I share that with you in the area of teaching and this is my last one too... I am "Going to the House" at the end of this one. Maybe I will have more time to blog again on here between being full time care giver to my mom. Whatever... I am ready for the next step of life..

Hi,Gamma,91 degrees?I'm overjoyed when we get into the 50's.
Instead we may be getting our first major snow on Wednesday and Thursday.Almost made it through the winter.Hopefully won't be too bad,but sounds like it has the potential, really makes that 91 sound nice.

Hi Gamma!
I haven't been around WU much, but I wanted to pop in and say hi.

Congrats on 25 years! Regardless of how the company handled the recognition, it's still a big deal. When I was at my old company, I thought we were stable enough that I could do my entire career there. I lasted 10 years before they eliminated my department.

we had the Third Annual Tea in the Garden this weekend. Somehow, we topped ourselves from last year - everything was beautiful. We had more variety in food, more variety in music, and more room for people. The weather held out - it was overcast, but not rainy. I haven't heard our total fundraising take, but I think we did really well.

Hope everyone out there has a good week!

91 in February? Never got that even in Pensacola until April, and that was rare.

Got up to a roasty 46 today. Might get to 60 by mid week, which will seem so warm we'll probably be in shorts, considering two weeks ago on Sunday morning it was 1F !

Well, at least you get something for your 25 years. We get....drum rolls.........pins.

Actually, I'm fine with that. I don't honestly need to be recognized for years at a place. I wouldn't be there if I didn't like it.

Now, I know you don't like where you are and you can't wait to leave, but at least, I'm sure, you are grateful for what you do get - benefits, pay, recognition, a retirement - and maybe bonuses? That's something I'll never see (bonuses).

Sounds like you are having heavenly weather, and just perfect for all the outside entertaining you'll be doing! I certainly know that YOU are enjoying it!

and a little cool... in mid 70's! LOL

Hi everyone, been busy getting things ready for this afternoon.
Easy today; just pick up trays already made.
We only had a few dips and fruit salad.

Today is Finn's Birthday so if you get a chance stop by her blog!!!

Enjoy your Sunday.

Summer already?? 86?? No fair.

It actually got up to 48F today, which seems warm but it was cloudy and drizzly all day. Tomorrow the same but cooler, about 42 for a high.

Enjoy your gathering!

Scott, I hear you; believe me I can "bark out orders" pretty good but for some reason, my family does not listen! LOL

I hate to tell you this but, currently it is 86 degrees F, and feels like 93F.

We are 20 degrees warmer here in SEFla than it is in central Fla and Orlando area...

that Cool front that was forcast to come thru last night and today did not happen... even this morning we were not suppose to get this warm and be cool tomorrow with forcast tomorrow around 71F.. now it has been changed to high tomorrow of 83F!

Sometimes these fronts just cannot make it all the way thru SE Fla...

and I am not complaining.. this year February has been beautiful! for me anyway!

Shore and Sandi,

Thank you so much!!! Yes 25 yrs at the same job is challenging but it just sort of "happened" before I knew it.. it was never something I had planned on doing!

I sure hope I am not there much longer!

And yes I am looking forward to an "easy" day tomorrow.
Betsey and I will set up the big table as a buffett with all types of meats, cheese, breads, salads, fruits, dips, etc... and let people make up their own subs/sandwich and plates.

Lucky still suppose to be warm so the grandkids you know will be back in the pool. We actually had a really warm week.

Now I must get moving, The ship docked in Miami already so they could be here by around noonish.

I came by to see how the invalid was and see she is up and about - maybe not up-an-at-'em just yet, but getting there.

I agree the menu for tomorrow is a great idea - no pressure to cook or stress involved - a perfect solution!

Hope everything goes OK - don't over do it, let the youngsters run about while you sit with a glass of red issuing orders!

My gosh! Turn my back on you for two days and everything happens! First of all, I hope you're feeling better. It sounds like a little run-down-itis. I hope that's all it is and that you're back to yourself soon.

And congrats on the recognition. I was trying to think - I've been varnishing now for 22 years. I wonder what kind of recognition party I'll get when I hit 25 years? Good GOSH! I can't even believe that, now that I think of it. That's truly weird - 25 years doing anything is amazing. It seems like those years go by in a flash.

It sounds like you made a good decision for tomorrow's party. Keep it simple, so that you can enjoy it, too! Have a good day - I'll check back later to see how things are going.

Good morning everyone,

Still feel a little lazy but I will survive; I needed a full day in bed like I did yesterday. I only got up to take Harley out 3 or 4 times.

I must get moving because Betsey, Scott and Baron return fro their cruise this morning and will probably be here early afternoon.

For tomorrow's party we decided not to do grilling but rather buy deli meats and cheese and let everyone make their own subs or sandwiches.
And set out some veggies and dips, etc..fruit will also be nice.

Ylee, thank you I will try I will rebound! Thanks for stopping by and checking on me!

LT, you are going to love it. Scott's parents live in Del Rey Beach about 25 miles north of us off Hwy 441 (out west not on beach) in alovely community.
Yesterday we reached around 87 degrees with full sunshine.
today may cool down to around 80 and tomorrow only 77...but I truly don't that that "cool" front is going to make it this far south.. no evidence and it was suppose to be here today.

Rob, Thank you so much. I will save that so I can find it anytime I would like. I had that song in my head for 2 weeks! Most of Prince's songs on YouTube you cannot hear because he does not give permission or whatever...it is hard to find a good one of his..

NEw, thanks for stopping by.. I have noticed as I get older I cannot run full throttle all the time anymore... I will "break down" if I don't take it easy every now and then! Thanks for your concern!

So thank you all for coming by and I am feeling better still tired but the kind of tire that you feel after you had a good rest and you still don't want to get out of bed! LOL

Once the kids get here this afternoon I will be so busy, Betsey and I will have to make our menue and go select all our foods and such for tomorrow.

I will try to get back here when I can..

Happy Saturday!

Ylee, well I have not been at the main center very often in the past 11 years and it is nearly deserted.
The "ceremony" was pitiful and phony.
The Senior VP did not even know who I was and did not even know I was there when she announced my name!

I ordered my "service award" last month and got some luggage. I don't need another chrystal vases or a watch .

it lasted all of 15 mintues for everyone getting recognition and was stupid; nothing like they use to be.. and I wish I had not wasted my afternoon getting all dressed up and driving there.

Oh well, you live and learn but one thing I know for sure, I WILL NOT be there to see 30 yrs!

Thanks for stopping by...

Survivor comes on tonight and then back to work for Thursday and Friday.. then Off Saturday to spend time with Betsey,Scott & Baron..

catch you all tomorrow.

Gamma, congratulations on putting up with all the poop for the last 25 years! :) You're lucky to get a ceremony; where I work, they used to have a 30 year meal, but now you have to order your service rewards out of a catalog! Last year for my 5yr. I chose a cheap Chinese knife with the company logo on it, lol!

Have fun!

Good morning,

South and Central Florida are having beautiful sunshine and warm temps.

Right now I am around 75 with high today in lower 80's. This is perfect spring weather.

You know I love it. I really need to get a lot done today before I must get cleaned up and go to the
recognition ceremony this afternoon...

There are so many things that I need to do around the yard and house I don't even know where to begin!

I think first step is getting off this computer!

Have a great day... I will be at work tomorrow.

Ylee, glad you stopped by. Hope your son gets well quickly. These kids and pass around germs quickly.
Good idea about where to aim my sneezes today! LOL

Karen, that is very interesting; saw you put it on your FB wall also.

I did turn my computer off the past few nights...and this morning it was a little slow coming up but worth it if it helps me not get hacked.
I will just have to stop being lazy and start turning it off every night and when we go to work.

If you start feeling a little off tomorrow, just sneeze or cough in the general direction of any brass that may be present for the ceremony! ;-)

What a day. Nolan and Rylee both got even sicker with higher temps.
Ellen left work early to come take them home..
She has meds for them I did not have..

If they are still feverish and sick tomorrow she will keep them both out of school and stay home with them.

I sure hope they did not get me sick! and what ever they have they get better before this weekend.

But kids do rebound much faster than adults.

And Harley looks great ... when he is freshly groomed he feels so good.. he is fiesty and "full of himself"!

I got some errands ran and got some groceries and things we needed..

Also it was time to buy more goggles and diving toys for the pool...
And my basket of sidewalk chalk was depleted;down to just a couple of very small pieces.
I had it for years so Had to replenish that... and bubbles...

this is what you do when you have a tribe of grands!

Going to take it easy rest of evening...

Tomorrow hope to sleep in late, relax a little then get ready to go to my work, but the local facility that is only 4 miles down the road from where I live..
where I spent my first 14 yrs with the company.

I am being recognized for my 25 years of service...
I still have a lot of old friends over at the main center so hopefully will get to see some of them while I am there...
well I hope they are still there; most of them have retired or been laid off...

Oh well...
enjoy your evening! I don't go back to "real work" until Thursday this week.

Hi NEw, Betsey and Scott said the same thing.. the little 5" of snow they got on Baron's BD Jan 21st was about it for the year...except for the Halloween snow last Oct 31st..which was unusual.

It has been mild...

funny you mention the temp of your ocean in August...
Betsey just said same thing..
everytime they go to Cape Cod or any of the beaches.. she says even in August
she will not get in the water because at its warmest it barely reaches 70! LOL
I mean after now 6 yrs of living "up north" she is getting thicker blood and handles cold better
but she was still raised in SE Fla! In the water as an athletic and life guard, etc.

I know when we were there in Aug 2010 I wore a jacket when we were in the Boston Harbour area! that wind
off the ocean was cool and had a "bite" to it! LOL

Call me a whimp!

Thanks for stopping by.

GM,Gamma,my color is green this morning, not from illness but from envy, you talking about pool temps in the 80's to 90.Guess that eliminates any chance of you going into our ocean even in the middle of the summer up here.We consider it great if it approaches 70.
Anyway, what a great winter we've had, everyone is so happy, after the last couple of winters,so many people had just about had it.I know I was getting myself depressed last fall with the approach of winter, but its been a walk in the park for us.The month of Feb. most of us have only had a trace, for Boston they've only done that twice, for me in the suburbs, probably had never happened. And expecting temps in the 50's close to 60 the rest of this week, which probably makes you shiver just thinking about that, but we are loving it.

Good morning and it is a beautiful morning here.

I have Nolan and Rylee today. Rylee is sick, cough and a little fever so she could not go to school.

And we ran some errans "drive thru" and took Harley to the groomer....I have them both laying in bed watching TV now..

Karen, sounds like a nice family day! Your oldest is 36 tomorrow...
my oldest, Greg, will be 36 March 29th...no wait.
.he will be 37... YIKES!!!! he was born in 1975!
He is already 36!

They are all 2 yrs apart and last year their were "even" years.. 36, 34 and 32...

this year they will be 37, 35, and 33.. Double Yikes!

Yes we will have a bigger family day party this coming Sunday.. but instead of me tending the BBQ/Smoker all day and preping food.. we are going to order food and build our own sandwiches, etc..
and have a lot of snack foods...

Yes it was a great book, by my friend Nancy Gentry. She is retired school teacher from Memhis, Tennessee who always wanted to write...
and this is her 3rd book that has been published.
I think I mentioned her on one of your WU blogs last year.. her books are geared toward preteen and teen girls..
they are historical books about how things were back in the old south.
and she covers the history part very well and makes it so easy to be thankful that we have come a long way since those days... and tells it in a very interesting story.
This one "The Secret and the Sunday Rose" was how girls were not allowed to play boys sports even when they were better than the boys (baseball) but it all ended well as they should for this age group. Also one of her grand daughters is on the model on the cover. It is around 150 pages and because it was so interesting for me it was a fast read.
All of her books would be great for your library.

Hi Scott,
Yes the pool was around 75 - maybe 80... and I thought it was cold! Pool temp without heat is upper 60's now or low 70's. Once we stop having "cool" fronts and the air is always around mid 80's and nights never get below 70 the pool temp will get near 80 naturally and that will be better... for the kids but I still like over 85!
Last summer our pool temp hovered between 85 - 90 degrees..

I don't think I would have road even a mountain bike on icy roads! You are lucky you did not get hurt.. but glad it was nice enough to get out for a while.
I know you all must have "cabin fever" by now and craving to get outside into some warm sunshine!

Hi Patti!

What is cold in the pool...75 degrees?? Bet you prefer sauna type water.

This morning is clear, 21F. Reached 50F Saturday. HOT!

Went bike riding yesterday, finally warm enough to do so. Yesterday as it was a federal holiday so I was off. It was about 30F. On the farm roads there was ice where water had run across them in some places. Guess what? Mountain bikes do slide on ice, as I found out.

Yeah - you were reading a book! What were you reading? Something fun I hope! Sounds like you had a good time with the family, and you have another chance next weekend!

We ended up with family today too. It's my younger brother's birthday today and they went to Disneyland. He told my mom this morning that if the park was too crowded they'd swing by her place and pick up a couple of things she had for one of their sons.

Well, we were at my mom's this morning, helping her replace screens, grease up her bike, and do assorted other chores, when he called and said they would come by and perhaps we could all go out and have lunch.

So, that's exactly what we did. It was a nice unexpected visit from my brother and his family, and I got to personally wish him a happy birthday!

Now, tomorrow is our oldest daughter's birthday. Yikes....36...how can I possibly have a child that old (I know you know how that feels!!!!)

Skye, yes it was.. and while today was much cooler.. after everyone left I spend about 2.5 hrs outside on a lounger in the sun pool side reading a book..
something I never get to do anymore!

I even got into the pool to "cool off" a few times!
The water was cold but to cool off for just a few minutes it was ok...

Yes all the grands, well except for Greg &^ Pam's two boys they were all camping this weekend...

but they should be here next Sunday.. even bigger party planned for next Sunday...

Looks like you had a fun weekend:)

It's been a fun winter to remember. Swimming season never ended. The kids have been in the sprinkler or on the slip & slide near every week or more.

Makes me fear an excessively hot summer a little..

Yesterday was such a fun family day.

Sunny skies temps in mid 80's. We heated the pool a little to knock the chill off the water...

Big time "pool day" for the kids and some adults.

it was still way to cold for me but to kids it is never too cold and Betsey did not think it was bad
but what do they know they live in Boston!
Any water in mid 70's seems warm to her now.

We were all outside around the pool all day.. and I made chicken, brisket, hot dogs, on smoker...

Then Rylee slept over last night because Baron was here...

Today Betsey, Scott and Baron leave for a 5 day cruise with his parents...

they will return next Saturday.

Hope you are all having a great Monday.

We did get a 'cool' front so a lot cooler outside this morning than yesterday.

Hi Ylee, You know I think my Webroot does everything non-stop as long as it is "on".
someway mine got turned "off" for a while, maybe one of the grands playing on the computer did it.

But even thought Webroot runs non-stop I also run it manually at least once a week.

Anyway I found out my email got hacked because it was Betsey who got hacked 2 weeks ago and send me the original hacked email...
She lost her email for 3 days she was hacked so badly had to have a professional come fix it...

So at least I know now why I got hacked.. I opened Betsey's email.

Gamma, naybe you need a program that does that stuff for you! I use a program called Advanced SystemCare that does all that stuff automatically. There is a free version that never expires, but for like 12 bucks a year you can buy the full version. This program can do all the defragging, erasre surfing traces, ect. at a time of your choosing, like when you are in bed!

Don't know if that's something you want to fool with, but I use it and I think it does a good job! Wish I could upload it to the work computer, lol!

Good luck on the brisket and the other vittles! Sounds wonderful! If I lived nearby, I'd come and work on your computer for free food, lol!

{{{{Karen & Sandi}}}}

Thank you so much. I now know what to look for..

I have many talents but computers is NOT one of them!

I just learned how to erase history/browsing in the past few months!

At work we have paid "techs" who take care of these things and they all know me!!!! LOL

and at home from time to time I ask one of the kids to "fix" my computer and get rid of the junk!

Now I really need to learn to do it myself.

Just turn your computer on first thing when you wake up, then go get your coffee, and it should be ready to go!

Karen - I do that - switch it on as I go past on my way down for coffee!
And yes - programs!! lol

Again - I ditto what Sandi said...and she even provided directions! I just did this to my work and home computer yesterday.

You might have also downloaded a lot of programs that you don't really want, but deleting them takes a bit more practice to know what you truly need and don't need. Sometimes when you download a program, it asks if you want it in the start menu - or something like that, and if you say yes, then it loads it when you turn on the computer.

Just turn your computer on first thing when you wake up, then go get your coffee, use the bathroom, wash your face and it should be ready to go!

Actually I tried to find the "defrag" but could not find it anywhere on my computer..

Gams -

On the start button open All Programmes.

Then look for Accessories

Then System Tools ...

You can first do Disk Cleanup, which removes temporary internet files and unwanted searches, and then Disk Defragmenter :)

Hope that helps ... something to do when you have a spare moment!! lol

Hi Sandi,

Actually I tried to find the "defrag" but could not find it anywhere on my computer..
But I did empty my recycle bin last weekend..

I need to do it more often...and I did erase history recently...but again I need to do it more often.

I just had Nolan and Rylee for parts of 3 days and for Tuesday night and I was wiped out!

I will get to see Baron tonight (probably) but if not tonight then early tomorrow morning.

Since Betsey knows now I am leaving work early this afternoon
they may see if they can get to us tonight..

When did you last "defrag" your home computer and empty your recycling bin?

All the litter slows down your computer... this could be why it takes so long to open.

Your dinner menu sounds so yummy.... :)
