Soooo... I get back home just in time to meet my younger daughter with the keys to my second set of wheels... an old SUV but has the bottom fixed with a coat of stuff for driving on winter roads with salt .... guys out there that understand the needs of the winter driving up north.. understand what I am talking about. I just dont know what you call that coat of stuff painted on to the metal under the bottom of vehicles.

The Old Man, as I call it, has been used by her during the past three winters when she returns back to school up at VT. With four wheel drive, the 1996 Toyota four runner is a good one for her when the winter sets in up there in Blacksburg.(A far different kind of winter that we see in Starkville, Mississippi.) I think of my dear Uncle Bob each time my daughter takes off in it... Uncle Bob lived in Raleigh NC and understood weather. When he passed away back in 2007, I got his old "truck".

So anyway, my kid got the SUV a little bit early this year... her own set of wheels... some little car called a spider, is in the shop as somebody ran into the side of her.. I was worried but after laying eyes and a hug on her... she was fine. Upset that her dear little set of wheels was messed up but here in Starkville, there is a guy here that can put all back to right. So much that when she got hit (right at the wheel not the door! THANK GOD!) and the left front wheel was sitting at an angle, she paid from her pocket to tow it back here to this man, FROM Ohio to Mississippi. See she was only visiting up there with friends and did not know any shops up there or even in Blacksburg.. but here in Starkville, she did know somebody well. So this child btw, 30 years old, rented a U-haul truck and dolly system, and got her car up on it. Then drove the truck down to Mississippi. The shop is A & R Foreign Auto and believe me, the guys there do know how to take care of the little babies. So if anyone needs help in this part of the USA, now you know....

Right now my kid is back at school, watching the snow coming down in Blacksburg. So maybe getting the SUV before the start of Nov. was a good ideal anyway. I would not want that little spider (NO NOT spyde) sports car on the roads up there with what they must do to deal with the ice/snow.

Ok, so Mom has placed her RV into the shop to take care of fixing the water lines for the cold weather and some minor fixing of different stuff. I got back home to see my doctor and chat about my meds. While I lost some weight over my trip with my mom, my blood sugar levels were not good. In fact the A1c readings were the highest I have ever had in 20 years of dealing with diabetes - 8.6 !!! I have been dealing with a rise since January but this was way too high. The doctor thinks my pancreas is no longer producing insulin so we have moved from the pills, to shots of insulin. I am learning how to deal with the shots and records of sugar before each meal besides the first thing I roll out of the bed and last thing before going to bed.. so my hand and my tummy are getting stuck by needles all the time right now. My levels are around 200 on the average which is way too high still. They need to run below 130. Sigh!!!

Ok, so that is the major things I have been dealing with... There have been a few small problems.. such as when I got to my own house, the temp dropped down and I went to turn on the gas heat to find it was NOT WORKING! shesss.. but I asked around and found a man to work on the gas furnace just in time for the cold to set in over us last night. Just the normal life of a homeowner... and stuff you just do not need to put off..

I have been so tired, just have not tried to upload photos anywhere but just a few on FaceBook. I guess some of the lack of normal energy is due to the high blood sugar levels.. but slowly I am getting things marked of my "to do list". I popped in to my blog this am to fix a new one to let folks know how things were running... thinking.. I bet nobody has read anything.. to find a note.. asking for an update!! Wow.. Glad somebody is checking in on me. I miss the old days when there was a large group of folks keeping in touch with all of us. However with Sandy hitting the east coast.. Weather demands much of our time.

My next blog will have more details of the first breakdown of the RV. as one of the pals in here said.. there was no excuse for the pulley system to fall apart as it did on a Class A RV engine. I have posted photos up on Flickr.com and will have links in the new blog on here..

HUGS and much love to you guys that keep track of me... To my old friends and the few new fellows I have picked up in my last blog.. Your notes keep this old lady on her feet and smiling at what life dumps in her lap -

For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Hi, Patti.... the blog is here :)

Yes now... but last night they were gone for a while. Right now I have a problem with seeing all the adv. I paid but seems the money did not get to them. Have sent a note to them and hope they process the ticket soon... Sent a copy of where I paid back early this month... would be glad to pay three years ahead even but seeing how the first batch of money did not make it into their pockets,... I am slow about tapping again on the button.

Yes Patti, its the old sugar that is making you feel so tired all the time. It's my problem too as I am a type II diabetic and getting those levels down to a good managable level is not the easiest. Right now I am running a bit high so my doc put me on a new med Januvia and will see how it looks come next set of blood tests. I am on pills still but if things don't start settling down soon, he may opt to put me on insulin injections too.

Good luck and I hope you can get your levels down. It takes work and perserverance to get where it should be. Diet is the big issue.

Just a brief greeting with a photo collage from my last painting, and a quote from a poem:

Hail to thee, blithe spirit!
Bird thou never wert,
That from Heaven, or near it,
Pourest thy full heart
In profuse strains of unpremeditated art.
Percy Bysshe Shelley
To a Skylark.

Hi Patti,
Your girl is a smart one... When you have a car you love you want some one you trust to do the repairs! Great job!
Hope you are well.

Hey and hi darling Ylee,
Yep those cars are not my cup of tea but she has learned how to do much of the work herself. I watched her this summer change out her soft top on it. Before that, she sew up some small holes, change something in the brake system, and some other light work under the engine. Her grandfather and her dad both worked on cars so I am so glad they taught her a few things. Mainly it was her dad who taught her the love of working on engines. I guess she just likes playing about that engine. She has for the last three winters dropped her little car off under my carport and then grabbed the SUV so the spider has always been a fair weather car. Oh it is the year 2000 btw. I have made comments that it's called a spider because that's the only thing that can fit between it and the ground, as the car sits that low and close to the earth.
We got the word that the car can be fixed! Some of te parts have been ordered and the body work can be knocked back out. I think the whole tire and wheel system must be replaced on the front tire that is sitting at that odd angle. But the shop knows she will not drive it till the weather gets warm again so they will find what is needed to do it right.

Hello dear Proserpina
I hope you get some rest and the little Koko gets well. Hugs dear one. Thanks for dropping by.

Hi, Blacksburg, VA?

I just wanted to say hello, I am totally exhausted due to lack of sleep. First with the storm, and last night with Koko moaning due to a newly discovered bleeding ulcer under her paw (I think a bleeding wart of sorts). I have a 12 o'clock appointment with the vet and I am going to try to get a nap in before we get on the road. See you later.

I am surprised that I am first! Must be all the commotion with Sandy! Well, you can't say you lead a boring life! :) I'm sure a little boredom wouldn't hurt, though!

I'm sorry that you now have to take the insulin by shots now, but you have to do what you have to do. Hopefully the Doc can get your blood sugar level lined out soon!

Your daughter has an Alfa Romeo? To me, that's an awful high-maintenance car to be travelling such a far distance! Glad there's somebody local who can fix it! She's much better off with the 4Runner this winter!

Take care!
