Preparing For Winter on the Prairie

By: plapman , 11:39 AM GMT on September 19, 2012

Today will be overcast with a chance of rain. The high will be 15C. it will be windy on the prairie with wnds from the NW at 35 to 40 km/h. There is a 40%Chance of rain with rainfall amounts near 0.5 mm possible.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy with and overnight low of 8C with winds Winds from the NW at 10 to 20 km/h.
------------------------------------------------- --
Today I'll have to dissconnect the irrigation pump, bring it in for the winter, adjust the skids on the snowblower to leave a thin layer of snow for the first couple of times I need it or I'll be blowing gravel on the neighbors yard. That will keep me out of trouble while the Queen works.

Good morning Shore.
Great photos of the shuttle.
While I was working at a park the park manager was setting up for a remote controlled model airplane show. One of the fellows had attached a remote controlled glider to his small plane and when the small plane reached altitude he'd release the glider and fly them both safely to the ground. he must have gotten the idea from the shuttle sitting on the back of a 747.
I like to prepare things well ahead of time. I changed the oil in the blower in August. The neighbors must have thought I'd lost it having the blower out at 80f. It sure beats freezing your fingers though.
Enjoy your day.

My gosh - you people really are setting up for winter, aren't you? I know, I know - many miles separate us. Still, it's hard to imagine all your preps are happening while it's still so warm down here.

Glad to hear you're puttering, though. That means you're feeling better!

The big deal here today was the space shuttle flying around. Here are a couple of pics I took - nothing like the photos the people with the big lenses take, but still pretty neat.

I remember a while back you doubted you would ever use your snowblower again, and now here you are, getting it ready for you to use it this winter!

I call that progress, and an indication of your strong will! Bravo, Tony! :)

Good morning Tony. I know how you feel. Its bloody cold here this morning. When I was up at 5, temps were hovering around 45F and with the bathroom window open, it got darn cold in here. Was going to visit the vampyres this morning but after doing my testing, found that its crazy high. Gotta eat something light, stay away from any high sugar junk food like potato chips and such and try for tomorrow AM. Should have known better but I had a salt craving last night. My bad.

Well off to make a couple of toast to go with my cup of coffee then get dressed. Have a good day puttering with the snowblower and getting ready for winter. Let's hope in Oct we have a nice Indian Summer to enjoy before the snow flies.
