Closing the Northern Edge

By: plapman, 9:50 PM GMT on September 13, 2013

I'm closing the Northern Edge.
The tinnitus and distorted hearing aid is driving me insane.
if repairs to the hearing aid brings me back to sanity I'll come back.
Meanwhile I'll drop by and comment.

Kids and Dogs

By: plapman, 12:12 PM GMT on September 10, 2013

Today will start with a mix of sun and cloud this morning. A few showers with thunderstorms beginning late this afternoon. The high will be 25C(77F).
Tonight will see the showers and thunderstorms ending early this evening then clearing. The overnight low will be 12C(54F).

I'm off to visit the vampires again this morning. if the police ever check my arm I'll be checked for drugs with all the tracks on my arm.
Yesterday while walking Abbey we met a little kid who was saying" Puppy, Puppy" when he saw Abbey. I stopped and let him pet Abbey. The hid had a rock in his hand and dropped it. Abbey quickly sniffed it and the kid said "That's mine and took it back" then started chattering to me about the puppy. I couldn't get away. Every kid should have a dog.

Another Project and the Machine I've Learned To Hate

By: plapman, 11:41 AM GMT on September 07, 2013

Today will be mainly sunny with the wind becoming northeast at 20 km/h this morning. The high will be 25C(77F).
Tonight will be partly cloudy with the northeast wind at 20 km/h becoming light early this evening. The low will be 12C(54F).
------------------------------------------------- ----
The trip to the audiologist went well yesterday. My left hearing aid is set perfectly for the hearing loss but does have some distortion. The right side has completely lost the high end of the hearing spectrum. It must be the distortion that's causing things to sound louder. After contacting the workers compensation board for approval the audiologist will have the left hearing aid repaired.
That ugly little drill we used o haul through the bush and carry in the back of a van still haunts me.
The Minuteman Drill

From the photo I see the operator has hearing protection and the muffler is a lot bigger. When I was operating that drill no one had hearing protection.
Today's project will be to try and repair the switch on my miter saw. The thing won't shut off. It did that before but in time it repaired itself. I'm going to need it for the grandfather clock project. I don't like the idea of having to unplug it to stop the spinning blade.

A Warmer Than Usual Fall For The Prairie

By: plapman, 11:14 AM GMT on September 06, 2013

Today will be mainly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers early this morning and this afternoon along with the risk of a thunderstorm. The high will be 32C(90F).
Tonight will see clearing this evening and a low of 13C(55F).
I just read the long term forecast for the Northern Edge and the fall is predicted to be warmer than normal. The weather we've been having so far sure makes it look like the forecast will hold true.
it will be good for the local farmers who have already harvested in many areas and have the fall cultivation completed.

Enhanced Hearing

By: plapman, 2:03 PM GMT on September 04, 2013

Today will be sunny with a high of 22C(72F).

Tonight will be clear with a low of 12C(54F).
------------------------------------------------- ----
yesterday I made an appointment with the audiologist to get the hearing aids checked. Everything seems louder now. I don't know if it's me or the hearing aids. There's a pea processing plant about a mile from my home and I can hear it while sitting outside. While walking with Abbey the leaves rustling are really loud. It sure is nice to hear so well but also kind of scary to hear sounds I usually don't hear like my runners on the pavement and Abbey walking through the grass on our walks.

The Queen's Genealogy Project

By: plapman, 11:13 AM GMT on September 03, 2013

Today will be mainly sunny with the wind becoming northerly t 20 km/h early this afternoon. The high will be 27C(81F).
Tonight will be clear with the north wind at 20 km/h becoming light early this evening. The overnight low will be 6C(83F).
------------------------------------------------- ---
Yesterday the queen tried to do some shopping but even the big box stores were closed. They should change the name of the holiday to Saving Day.
The Queen has been trying to research my paternal genealogy. She sure has been having a tough time. Instead of looking on an island with a population of 2000 now like hers she's looking in the city of Winnipeg on the 1921 census. The population of Winnipeg at that time was close to 180,000 and me being the last of the line there's no one to ask for help.

Today will be clear in the morning, then partly cloudy with a high of 23C(73F) with winds from the SSW at 10 to 15 km/h.
tonight will remain clear with a low of13C(55F). The wind will remain steady at 10 to 15 km/h from the SSW.
------------------------------------------------- --
The Queen and I had a great day yesterday starting with a surprize visit from old friends we'd met when we were first married. We were living in an apartment and they moved in next door. Over time we lost contact when his job took him out of Portage. We haven't seen each other in at least 20 years. I can't think of a better anniversary gift.

KiwiBrian your going to have to start a blog so I can comment on it.

45 Years and Still Counting

By: plapman, 11:56 AM GMT on September 01, 2013

Today will start mainly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers or drizzle early this morning then clearing this morning. The wind becoming northerly at 20 km/h this morning. Today's high will be 22C(72F).
Tonight will be clear with fog patches developing overnight. The north wind at 20 km/h becoming light early this evening. The overnight low will be 6C(43F).
------------------------------------------------- --
The Queen and I went out last night. it was a bit of a disappointment for her. The steak she ordered came rare instead of medium rare as she had ordered. When the waitress came to ask how everything was the Queen told her. The manager immediately came and apologized offering her another which she refused as I was almost finished eating. When it was time to pay we weren't charged for her meal and were given 10% off mine. I think even though her meal was unsatisfactory that the place has great customer service and we'll go back.
When we turned in for the night I gave her the goodnight kiss and said 45 years and 6 hours.
