On August 29/30, the new moon and perigee will be less than 40 hours apart. That is not a perfect alignment and it is a few days beyond when Irene should make the most impact. However, high tides will be slightly above normal on August 26 and more so on August 27. A scene from The Hurricane. Director John Ford was given a budget of $400,000 for the setting and special effects. $150,000 to create the Polynesian village, and $250,000 to destroy it. Filmed on 2 1/2 acres behind United Artists main set building. The wind machines and water tanks work very well. Who needs CGI!
