My last thread was getting a bit stale and dusty.

I figure I'd better get something fresh up before ya'll started complaining about the mess.

Bug, you're not certifiable, you're just different, that's all! :) Like my 13 year old, who will turn his nose up at his mom's homemade yummy lasagna and open a can of Chef Boy-ar-Dee ravioli! Wife'll look at me when he does this and'll say, "He's yours!" Wonder what she means by that? :)

Sounds like you had a nice weekend!

I'm back at work and have internet access! I just can't get online for personal stuff except during lunch or if I stay for a little while after I clock out.

Seafood and fish are something I've never been able to stomach. There's just something about the taste that I just can't get past. I've got relatives Upstate that think I'm certifiable. I live right on the coast where I can get it fresh off the boat and I don't like it.

I had been trying to get into the habit of taking an omega 3 supplement but, like my daily vitamin and calcium supplements, I forget half the time.

Soooooo.... this weekend I bought a large compartment daily pill organizer to use at home and I've got a smaller one that I can bring to work. Some meds I take in the a.m. and p.m. Those will stay in the container at home, along with the full range of pills for weekends. I will try to take some of my supplements at lunch, hence the need for a carryall for work.. Spread the little buggers out.

I forgot to check the 'use by' dates before going to Wally World. I need to update my supplies. some of them are old or getting really close to the use by date.

It was an uneventful weekend. I washed clothes, went to visit my cousin, went to Wally World, read, did some light dusting and picking up, watched TV, worked some crosswords, read the paper.

I'll be going up to Dad's this coming weekend. I have asked for Friday off and I have not heard anything to indicate that I won't get it off.

I plan to leave Friday a.m. and come back Sunday afternoon. SMom had told me she wanted the use of my truck for a yard sale Sat. I'm assuming she's hauling stuff off campus, as I do not think they're allowed to have yard/garage sales on campus.

I also want to see my uncle. This is the uncle that lives near Dad in Greenwood. I found out late last week that he was in hospital for a mild stroke. They were first talking about letting him go home Friday but they decided to keep him in a bit longer, to get his blood sugar stabilized. I've a feeling he's probably gone home today.

It was a very mild stroke; affecting mostly his left side, though my cousin (his oldest daughter) said it wasn't noticable. He is sometimes getting his words mixed up; saying one thing, when he means another.

I've been doing that for years. That and the TOT syndrome: Tip of the Tongue. I've got that one bad.

Sandi, you and I know how to stay healthy! LOL

I have read that same study and it all makes sense to me.

I do try to have fish at least once a week; and if I did not have such long work days i would
make fish dinners more often.

I love fish...and most seafoods...

Hi Bug, I guess you are home now and cannot get on line until you get your laptop password figured out. Good luck. have a great weekend.

Gamma is right - a little of what you fancy does you good!

I found a great website with plenty of good ideas, from which I took these two.

Drink alcohol in moderation, with a caveat! Alcohol should not be considered medicine - if you don't drink, don't start - but some studies have found mild alcohol consumption (one drink per day for women, two for men) can raise HDL by up to four points. Important caveat: Alcohol may be harmful to those with liver or addiction problems. In these cases, the risks certainly outweigh the benefits.

Feast on cold-water fish. Eating salmon, mackerel or other fish from icy waters several times a week can have a very positive effect on your HDL levels. They contain omega-3 fatty acids, which may help to explain their health benefits.

I have a portion of salmon and mackerel at least once a week.

PS - another health benefit to add to the point on alcohol .... I read that one small glass of Armagnac brandy gives you more vitamin C than six oranges!!
So guess how I get my daily dose of the health giving vitamin!!!! lol

Have a good weekend :)

Bug, Oh I am so sorry...

I would be in bad trouble if I had to take meds everyday on schedule.
Hubby takes his vitamins and his non-necessary pills every morning, religiously...
me, I just cannot be bothered, I don't even take my calcium or vitamins like I should..

Tell you a secret to get your "good" cholesterol up...
don't laugh but it is red wine...LOL
A glass or two several times a week (and we all know I overdo it on Sunday afternoons) but
my good cholesterol is great..
Also I guess there are foods you have to watch out for to get the bad cholesterol down a little.

I know that was not the news you wanted to hear from your doctor.....
I think if I had meds I had to take daily..
I would need one of those little 7 days a week plastic pill things also..
just so I would know if I took today's pill or not!

it is Friday afternoon and you should be off work for the weekend by now.

Hi, Ylee and Sandi.

Yeah, I was not happy. He discussed this possibility with me this time last year and I dug in my heels.

He said it wasn't the total numbers that were worrying so much as the increasingly high ratio of LDL to HDL.

I'm pigging out on grapefruit today and tomorrow for Sunday I can no longer eat them or drink the juice. And I LOVE grapefruit, esp the ruby reds....

Ylee? That 10-15 pounds? That weight is glued to my upper body and midsection like, well, I don't know what to compare it to. White on rice? A duck on a June bug? Manure on a farmer's shoes? Whatever... it just won't GO AWAY.

It doesn't help any that I love food and I love to eat. Lately, though, I've been eating enough chicken Lean Cuisines and rabbit food that I feel like I'm going to either sprout pinfeathers or bunny ears, one of the two.

Oh, poor you - I have to agree with Ylee.
Second thoughts, come to the UK as our levels are much higher before the doctors give you meds for cholesterol.

You need some of the special foods designed to lower Cholesterol!

Still at aunts then back home for the weekend before Monday and the funeral.... finally!

Statins? Ugh. After seeing my aunt go through a carousel of cholestorol meds, and seeing the side effects that came with them, I'd just as soon go on a diet of bean sprouts and unsweetened oatmeal!

Maybe you can lose the 10-15 pounds you were talking about and ditch the meds. I hope so!

Take care!

Hi, Gams!

Yep, it's gonna be a big change for me. I'm so used to using desktops.

I guess I'll learn and get used to it. Give me a couple of years and I'll wonder why I didn't go laptop much sooner!

Another milestone reached today. I'm not happy about it, either. My doctor has put me on statins.

My overall, combined numbers aren't really all that bad but my LDL (lousy cholesterol) has gotten really high.

While my HDL (happy cholesterol)is within the desired range, it is cheerful rather than happy.

Another scrip. I'm going to have to get one of those daily dose containers, as I can no longer keep up with what I've taken and what I haven't.

Hi, Sandi.

I'll just have to watch what I eat; nothing too hard to chew. No cracking open beer bottles with my teeth, either! lol

Stew and dumplings sounds good.

Our temps are heading back up again today, so I doubt there'll be a blanket on the bed tonight. We're looking at mid to high 80's and possibly 90, the rest of the week and over the weekend, depending on what weather forecast I look at.

I've got mountains of work to do. I've missed work several time recently, for doctor appts. Things start backing up. I've got another appt tomorrow, to discuss my lab results from my appt last week with my primary care doctor. My cholesterol levels, to be more specific. sigh.....

Because they've recently revised our lunch rules, if I am not physically at work for 8.5 hours that day, I cannot take an hour lunch. I can only take 30 minutes. Which means, anytime I have an appt during the work week (like when else am I going to be able to get one?), my lunch break is cut back and the heartburn is up from inhaling my lunch!

Happy Hump day to you - and I hope your mouth is behaving. Soups and slops for the next two weeks?

I have decided to make a stew and dumplings for my dinner and possibly do some baking - it is so cold out there. It is like winter!!!

Hi, Shore.

Cool in Galveston? It's downright cold here.

After all the unseasonably hot weather, I'd stripped the bed of winter covers, put up jackets and sweaters, turned the thermostat down. I'd even broken out the summer nighties.

I liked to have froze to death night before last, after Hubby left for work. (He's my little hot water bottle, you know. lol) Gus and I were both curled up in fetal positions trying to get warm.

We had to pull the blanket out last night and cut the furnace on.

Sorry you missed Godot blooming. I missed my walking iris for the same reason. They bloom and if you blink, you miss 'em. For whatever reason, I only had two buds on my walking iris this year and I missed both of them.

Good day to you, Miss Bug! Home for lunch after a nice, productive morning in Galveston. It's beautiful, too. The wind has stopped and it's still coolish - just lovely.

They're still talking about the unveiling on Houston radio - of course, everyone loves Willie and any chance to play a few tunes and gossip a little is good.

I was so disappointed - when I got home just now, Godot has bloomed and is in the process of folding. The other blooms have stayed at least for the day, but these are only holding themselves open for about four hours, I'd guess. Maybe the little ones are shy! LOL

Well, at least I got a pic of the big bloom. No sense really even recording these. Godette, on the other hand, is showing signs that she'll put forth either today or tomorrow. Her blooms always have stayed - plus, she puts out more blooms on a regular basis.

I was so tired last night I was on my way to dreamland before the sun was completely gone. I had the best/worst/funniest dream. Had a new car (Princess?). I was doing this and doing that and finally went out to look at it. The keys were in it, it was running, and the driver's side door was open. Hmmmmm.... engine running but not going anywhere? I've felt like that a time or two!

Have a good afternoon - time to finish up here and get back at it.

Hi, ho, everyone!

Briar, it was new my laptop that I was locked out of. Well, it was new two years ago and I'd never used it, after cutting on once and setting the password. I never got around to getting the router and all that good garbage. I just kept using my desktop model.

When I pulled it out a couple of months later, to take it with me to Dad's (their community has campus wide wi-fi)I forgot what my password was. The hint, Archie, immediately brought up 'Bugmobile' but somehow or other, it wasn't right. I'd tried all types of permuatations. Nothing worked. For 30 buck, Geek Squad simply removed the stupid thing.

Now I've got to get with my internet provider and set a date for them to come and me to be home. Hubby is clueless and I have questions I want to ask while they're there.

Hi, Gams and Sandi! Hubby didn't go with me yesterday. I took him a plate. I pigged out and ate all the things I'll probably have to stay away from, come Thursday. My doctor's office called to tell me that he wants to see me about my cholesterol. It was a bit high a year ago, just a hair over the good limit and he said if I lost 10-15 lbs, it would probably go down. I didn't and it didn't. I have no idea what it is now but I suspect that it's going to require statins. I really don't want to take them but I may have no choice right now.

Shore, didja hear what Willie sang at the unveiling? "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die."

If that ain't classic Willie, I don't know what is! LOL

Morning, Bug,

I'm late to work already, but wanted to stop by and say hi, since I'm headed to Galveston and won't be around until this evening.

How was the get-together yesterday? I chuckled at Briar's comment about the green beans and potatoes. We often had them mixed together, with bacon as well as the onion. Best with new potatoes, as a matter of fact, or red, although Mom would cube up russets if that's all that was around.

As a matter of fact, I have some onion, and fresh green beans, and there may be a potato...
No bacon, but who said life's always perfect? I may have dinner planned!

Good luck with working things out with your internet service provider and the Geek Squad. If you work it right, you can save some money and still have things working the way you want.

I must have missed something -- you need to get your password hacked? You forgot your password? I don't do well in that department either, especially with banks and other websites that want special characters. I'm also a believer in using a variety of different passwords, just in case one gets hacked/stolen. My solution is I keep a list on paper in my desk. Not the most secure way, I suppose, but I don't have a better solution.

Time for a (maybe) stupid question. The reason for the question is that foods can be very different in different parts of the country. You said: I have decided on the reunion foods. I cheated and got some Allen's seasoned green beans with potatoes and Vidalia onions. Canned, but easy. It sounds like this is one dish, instead of the two I know (green beans as one dish, potatoes and onions as another dish). But maybe you've got some tasty way of combining all into one???

Cool... I've always enjoyed listening to Willie Nelson.

He's adopted a couple of abused/neglected horses from Charleston, bless his heart. They' haven't been released to him yet; they're not up to the trip.

Well, poot!

I mis-spelled Oblah Di Oblah Da. I don't reckon it matters, though. Everyone knows what it is.

Ylee, I think things were kinda slow yesterday.

Sandi, I'm going to try to get the lappy over to Best Buy and get my password hacked this afternoon. I'm trying to get Hubby to call our internet provider and see if they'll come by to install a router and set up a secure wifi access. If they'll do that, it'll be cheaper than paying the Geek Squad for a home visit. Our IP has come over before, when I've had problems, which turned out to be the modem and they replaced it free of charge. AND they'll install my new computer on their network, while they're there. I won't have to call in, myself.

Hubby has a cold, isn't feeling good and keeps forgetting to call. He's home all afternoon, though, and we're not supposed to make personal calls except at lunch.

I will have to be home, whoever come, as Hubby is completely technology-impaired.

Pros, I have decided on the reunion foods. I cheated and got some Allen's seasoned green beans with potatoes and Vidalia onions. Canned, but easy.

I'll also fix a carrot, apple and raisin salad.

I think my cousin is going with her son. She called yesterday and spoke with Hubby, wanting to know what time they'd need to leave to get there in time.

I hope Hubby feels up to going. If not, I'm still heading up the road.

Shore, you really sound liek you've been hopping, lately.

Hard to believe it's been 2 years since the explosion. I wonder how the families are coping, the ones that lost someone on the rig.

There was an article in today's paper here about how they're finding diseased fish and fish with petroleum in their systems. Yuck.... It'll be decades before things get back to normal. If ever, really.

Happy lunchtime, Bug! Just remember - another word for "stale and dusty" is "comfortable". The last thing we want is one of those blogs that's got clear plastic over everything, even the lamp shades. ;)

I got rolling early today - I've been down to Galveston, slopped on some varnish and am back already. Slopped is the right word - it's so windy down there I thought I'd better check the radar to see where the front was. It's moving a little slow, but it sure is sucking wind off the Gulf. It had to be 30 mph - that's the speed at which it blows varnish off my brush between the pot and the rail!

The best news is that I'm climbing the ladder with alacrity at this point. Every day, in at least that way, I'm getting better and better! LOL

In the News of the World department, today may be the second anniversary of Deepwater Horizon, but it's also the day they're unveiling the new statue of Willie Nelson in Austin. At 4:20 p.m. on 4/20. What could be better? I do love Willie.

Have a good afternoon - hope it goes fast. Off I go, back to the salt mines.
