How Come?

By: palmettobug53, 10:53 PM GMT on July 15, 2012

This is just a random musings entry. I've been doing a lot of wondering lately about "How come....?"

How come just about all the body lotions on the market today come with pump dispensers rather than the bottle you pick up, flip the top open and squeeze out the amount you need? Those pump dispensers quit dispensing when there's still a good inch or more lotion in the bottle. The other kind, you can set them upside down so that the lotion all runs to the cap end and you can get pretty much every darn bit of it out.

Lotions, at least the ones I like, have gotten way too expensive, IMHO, to toss the remains when the pump quits pumping. Maybe I'm just lazy but I hate having to take the pump out and slam the bottle in my palm. I don't have time to fiddle about with that in the mornings when I'm getting ready for work!

My solution? I've discovered that most tops to those containers are the same size, pump or not. Go to the dollar store and buy a bottle of less expensive lotion with the flip cap, switch tops with your other bottle of lotion. Then, never throw that cap out unless it falls apart or something.

Another thing I wonder is how come the bank and grocer stores have umpteem windows or check out lanes but only a fraction of them are manned? Esp Walmart. They must have close to 30 registers and maybe 10 are open. Even on peak shopping days and times. Like Saturdays.

Got no solution to that one, though.

How come unexpected visitors always drop by when your house is a complete mess, instead of right after you finish cleaning and straightening up?

How come all the good classic movies come on the middle of the night during the work week? Or even during the day during the workweek? Oodles of good movies. Then, you take some vacation time. Are there any good movies on then, when you're home and free to watch? Noooooooooooo.

That's just a few that I've been wondering about. I'm sure there are dozens more.

Anyone want to chime in with their favourite "How come....."

Goodbye, Andy

Barney, Opie and Andy

Yesterday, I heard the sad news of Andy Griffith's passing at his home near Wilmington, NC.

Obit from LA Times

I grew up watching The Andy Griffith Show and the storylines are a part of my memories and my life. I even remember the world when it was still a bit like the fictional Mayberry of the 1960's.

I'd like to resprise my 2006 salute to Andy and the cast of The Andy Griffith Show. If a few of the links have winked out since then, I apologize.

So, without further ado....

This classic TV show is one of our most enduring favorites from the 60's. Who can forget Aunt Bee and Clara? Floyd's barbershop? Otis, the town drunk in a dry county? The Darlings? Ernest T. Bass and his rock chunkin'? Goober and his cousin, Gomer? Andy and his son, Opie? And of course, Barney Fife, deputy sheriff extraordinaire.

This show aired for 8 seasons and it never dropped below a 7th place ranking. It was one of the first "spin offs", coming from The Danny Thomas Show, and generated two spin offs of it's own: Gomer Pyle, USMC and Mayberry, RFD.

The show has even been used in Christian discussion groups:
The Gospel According to Andy and The Bible According to Barney Fife.

What was your favorite episode? Who's your favorite character? Let's take a stroll back through a simpler time, when a big night out was taking your date over to Mt. Pilot for dinner and a movie and when a picnic and an afternoon of fishing, was all you needed to relax on a Saturday afternoon.
