Weather Underground midday recap for Friday, April 11, 2014
A cold frontal boundary extended from the southern Plains to the Northeast on Friday, while a separate cold front dipped southward over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest.
A cold front stretched from Texas to Maine on Friday. An area of low pressure associated with this frontal boundary trekked east northeastward over the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. Showers and thunderstorms developed over several states, as flood warnings were issued in parts of Upstate New York. Mansfield, Ohio, reported a midday total of 0.69 inches of rain, while Marion, Ohio, reported a midday total of 0.68 inches of rain. Scattered showers and thunderstorms also pushed across Florida, while the remainder of the Eastern Seaboard avoided precipitation.
Meanwhile, a separate cold front moved southward over northeastern Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota. This system initiated scattered showers across the region on Friday. Winter storm watches were issued in Wyoming as this system approached the state. To the south, high pressure kept the central and southern Plains mostly clear, as temperatures ranged between the 70s and 80s across the area. Edinburg, Texas, recorded a midday high of 86 degrees.
High pressure also kept conditions mostly clear to the west of the Continental Divide. Temperatures ranged between the 80s and 90s across the Desert Southwest. Blythe, Calif., recorded a midday high of 90 degrees, while Thermal, Calif., also recorded a midday high of 90 degrees.
