north florida - wild florida

06:30, 31F, clear and calm. frost. waning half moon over the farm house. rooster just woke up. dogs howling. oatmeal for breakfast. out to do chores, then off to church. reading the lessons.
when I was warming up the truck, both hawks were flying around the farm yard, calling to each other.
bald eagle crossed the road on the way into CK. robins still along the shoulders.
medium low tide, going out. very low tide leaving. sunny, 60's with a N breeze. eagle crossed the road in front of me again, heading towards the scrub. there's a nest back there in some big pines.
69F when I got back to the farm at noon. one of the red-shouldered hawks was sitting on the top bar of the swing set in the back yard. it sat there for about 20 minutes, looking all around. upset the rooster, who clucked the whole time.
16:00, 63F, slight breeze, sunny. got 2 eggs. found another dead coon back in the brushy part of the yard. suspect the guard dog - just doing her job. protecting the chickens, too.
19:30, 46F, clear. sky is amazing.. stars and planets everywhere and so bright! there's not any light interference around here so on clear nights you can see forever.
