north florida - wild florida - equinox*

By: marsHen , 12:38 PM GMT on September 21, 2013

06:50, 69F, a fog. full silver moon above the sheep barn in the west. a pink preview to the sunrise. moon surrounded by pink clouds just lovely. roosters crowing. energetic walk with pup down the lane. guardian chases errant sheep, gets scolding, does not look sheepish.. donkeys sighing over hay. need to clean up last night's hay before they get new hay. so there..
07:20, 70F. open mud porch door to welcome equinox sunrise. 07:30, sun beams sweep through mudporch and enter kitchen, gilding old yellow pine beaded wood paneling around the sink. at 07:47, sun enters east and west doors of workshop, directly to the east of house, and sweeps down path to house. cat, pup, and myself welcome the end of summer/beginning of autumn sun.* according to "those who are in the know" today is the last full day of summer, tomorrow is the beginning of the fall season. we here at the farm saw the east/west alignment this morning through our rural solar calender. this evening, the last rays of the sun will shine directly through the mouse hole in the back screen door and on to the washing machine. primitive, but accurate. I love the clockwork workings of our solar system!
12:10, 88F, sunny. trimmed cabbage palms, raked and burned leaves from pecan and elm trees that are shedding now. clothes on the line. donkeys finally got hay. pup wore out, needs nap.
19:10, 81F, overcast. wash dry. got 3 eggs. a warm day. all dogs lethargic.
20:40, 79F, overcast. moon a dull smudge in the east. no stars. rain in the gulf. hope we get some even though I have another wash on the line ...

The moon set looked worth waking for. Saw it come up over the river last night.
