05:30, 54F, clear. new moon so no moon showing. stars, though. roosters sleeping. yellow dogs at back door. pup out. guardian barking. oatmeal. lamb bottles heating up.
08:05, low tide rising at CK. 60F, SE winds, 14 knts. large flock of ducks, mostly scaups, dabbling along the shoreline of sand bar. cormorants mobbing oyster bar. fed cat.
09:50, medium tide rising at suwannee river. swift current flowing into the gulf. 61F, SE wind, 10 knts. water temps, 14C, 57F - 15C, 59F. water very turbid with silt from floods in georgia. son says they got 17" in south georgia with the last system that came through. we got 1.5" from that rain event and were glad for that.
water felt colder than upper 50's. very rough, a moderate chop and a swell. all of us, except the PI who was on the boat, took a wave over our waders and sometimes two but all the shirts we generally wear in the winter soaked up most of it. very sloppy out there. we only had 1 offshore set. the remainder of the sets were less treacherous being along the shoreline and in the back creeks where the no-see-ums lurked.
catches were low. 5 sets with the bait seine brought minimal catches, mostly YOY pinfish and spot, sometimes YOY (young of the year) mullet.
the big (600') seine catches were low also - a few mullet and stingrays. 1 shad. a lot of silver perch (yellow tail) in the last set. a few juvenile trout. 1 juvenile black drum. ladyfish.. seems like they're back.
lots of ducks. big flock of white pelicans by mcgriff. harrier hunting the marsh. on the way in, on a back creek - medium size alligator (6') sunning on a bare mud bank at the base of a large stand of phragmites. eagle on a cypress.
13:30, high tide in the suwannee river delta. tide way up in the juncus and pounding away at peat banks on the barrier islands. 65F, south wind, 7 knts. partly cloudy, partly sunny. haze.
16:30, 74F at the back door. bringing groceries in. tired. pup out. rooster crowing. mostly cloudy.
17:40, 72F, overcast. got 2 eggs. covered firewood in case of rain. it was mentioned.
20:10, 67F, overcast. no stars. new moon. slight SW breeze. good night new moon.
