north florida - wild florida

06:40, 50F, foggy. waning full moon setting through the oaks in the donkey woodlot. roosters up. crows flying around. no one at the back door. let young dogs out. yellow dogs barking from under the porch. toasted cheese for breakfast.
10:30, low tide rising at CK. wood storks flying over #4 bridge. ducks, pelicans in the tide. 63F, NE wind, 7 knts. sunny. mended alot of fist-sized holes in the trawl. still have cod end to check and mend the sleeve. cat snoozing on net in the sun. lunch at annie's with a friend. pretty good crab cake and the oysters were not tiny, like I've had in other places.. I mean, there is a shortage of oysters this year. ducks out by the sand spit and in the channel.
15:20, high tide. SW wind, 3 knts. 70F. flocks of shorebirds, pelicans, cormorants congregating on any part of an oyster bar still above the tide. scattered ducks along flooded mud flats.
16:10, low 70's, partly cloudy, partly sunny. rushed through supper. off to hay guy's for hay. guard dog riding shotgun, pup covering the jump seat. 12 bales. both dogs didn't spot the chickens, but guard dog barked at other dogs. pup barked at the black cat that visits the farm on the sly.
17:50, 65F partly cloudy. unloaded hay. did chores. got 3 eggs. pink sky at night. farmer's delight.
18:50, 62F, foggy. misty stars. venus blazing. moon still sleeping.
