A trough of low pressure will linger over central Mexico on Thursday. This system will continue to trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms across the country, as Mexico City will have a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers with a high of 79(F)/ 26(C). The Yucatan Peninsula will stay clear of wet weather due to high pressure over the Gulf of Mexico. Cancun will be sunny with a high of 86(F)/ 30(C). An area of low pressure is expected to develop along the coast of Guatemala. This system will usher rain and thunderstorms over several Central American countries, including Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. In South America, an easterly wave of moisture will bring a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms to several countries, including Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and western Brazil. The strongest thunderstorms are forecast to develop along the border between Colombia and Peru, while heavy rain will occur along eastern facing mountain slopes across the Andes. Moderate to heavy rain will move across the southeastern corner of Brazil on Thursday as a cold front glides across the coast. To the south, a low pressure system will skim across the southern tier of Chile. This system will bring gusty winds and a chance of mixed precipitation to the southern Andes.
