Go Northern Illinois University!

December 9, 2012 - The storm to our North rages on. Minneapolis set a record for 10.2 inches of snow on this date and broke the record of 7.4 inches in 1964 (per WeatherUnderground tweet).
Our discussion indicates we are dropping in temps and could still see some minor accumulations around 1/10 of an inch, but maybe more in some areas.

Seems today was the HUGE shopping and preparation day in Chicagoland.
Even I ventured out to one of those big box craft stores, and it was soooo crowded, someone was screaming "Marco!!!" and their lost friend on the other side of the store was screaming "Polo!!!" back to them! LOLOL.
I promptly turned around and walked out when I saw the lines!
I simply said, "I'll make due with what I have for decorations, and make it work".

So, this becomes 'A Simple Christmas Blog'
Post something which is so simple and says 'Christmas' to you. (Or, which ever holidays you celebrate--EOHB --Equal Opportunity Holiday Blog here LOL! Just post a simple thought, picture, poem, memory, smell, sight--and we'll KISS the holidays together!
Keep It Simple Stupid...and be reminded we don't need anything more than the laugh of a friend or child, or a snowflake on our tongue, or (add your thought please _______?

So--This is my tree, it has lots of lights
And, this is my dog who sleeps here at night
And these are my stairs
I wrapped them in green
and lighted the path for my Mother the queen
She's coming to visit and that makes it special
To see all the Grands
Who've grown like the devil
And we'll make some quaint cookies
And sing in the choir
With family and friends we'll sit by the fire

Surrounded by children yewts puppies and kittens
We'll go through the bins and find the lost mittens

Yeah..Okay! I go now!!! Stay safe all Ships ----
OHHH That reminds me of one of my favorite SIMPLE Christmas Carols---
"I Saw Three Ships"...(Will post the link below when I find just the right -simple- video ;)

Here's the simple slide show of our decor this year...Truly be safe all ships at sea, or in port, or wherever you may be these holidays! We'll leave the lights on for 'ya!

Haaaa, uh oh!!! Best lock those cars up for Spring Break!!! They maybe got the fever and a taste! Let's hope they get home safely (and make it past Nashville, lol) That's too funny, Ylee! Tomorrow is my last closing (well, I have a rental) but last closing of 2012. I worked all day after church. Long story...Hope your Realtor story isn't too bad ugh :/

A salutation next and I'm done for the night except if I fix my poem graphic...we'll see.

Can you spare a moment for a yewt story? This morning, at midnight, kid #2 turns 18. So, to celebrate, she and a couple of her friends decide road trip. South, they say. Since of of the girls is still in high school(She got permission from her dad), they had to be back tonight.

At 12:30AM, they leave. By noon, they are in Panama City, FL.!!!(Does this sound familiar?) They collect some shells, take some pics, and start their way home. Presently, they are in Tennessee, a couple of hours from home. Around 1200 miles round trip, in a little over 24 hours!

Did I say there was NO car prep(Checking oil, tires, water, ect.) before they left?

Did I say this car is a 15yo beater with 180k miles on it?

Did I say the last 500 miles of their trip home is in the rain?

She's going to get a mild fussing by me when I next see her, for being irresponsible(her mom also had a talking to for letting her go this far, as well), but I have to give her a thumbs up for her moxie! Now, if she can use that moxie to go get a full time job, lol!

I also have a realtor rant, but that's for another day(just looking, not buying at the moment, but still..)......

Take care, jus. Me, all I can do for the victims' families is pray for them....

Hi Ozgalah, we are still all numb. Anyone who I know is, anyway.
We did our beautiful Christmas show today at our church.
Still, I couldn't even imagine singing Christmas carols. Except all the mentions of angels, and lifting our voices in prayer and song.
Plus, small children had a little part in the show and my heart just couldn't help but smile at them and love them so much more to see their little faces, and somehow when they smiled I saw they were just living in the moment, smiling and singing back.

Inside, my head still screams noooooooo, nooooooo for the parents, grandparents, friends family...in Sandy Hook. I revised my poem for the Indian Legend. Want to get it right for this lil circle of angel stars lifted up.

For now, tonight--I'll play the songs which may come to heart...and I'm going to rant a bit. Tis is nothing new to this blog...I'll post the new poem when I re-do the graphic. It will go to Sandy Hook in a card somehow, even if it doesn't get read by many. And, then we'll do something to honor them as we have done for all when my husband and our family grieves. We'll give blood, drive to help, donate food, donate money, support their supporters, what ever we find we can DOOOO to ease their pain, if at all possible.

Shocked and saddened by the news, pictures in our newspapers today, making it even worse, so sad.
Do you look forward to the first snow?
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Euro showing a major low next week and it brings snow to Chicago. I'm not good at posting model maps.

Hi NEw, it is unimaginable what has happened. It is a demon. It makes no sense.

Went to dinner with friends last night. But got home and the reality of the tragedy hit
again. Then woke up and it was my first thought. Just so sad for the Sandy Hook people. So many tears.

Horror. Ok I go now. Sorry. This started with weather :/
Hugs to all.

Hi,Jus,I feel the same way, this story has just shaken me to my bones.I just pray for all the families in that community and actually all parents and grand parents.I just don't understand what is going on in this country.
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
I was working when I heard the news and then driving and I could hardly listen to the radio. So many tears for these poor children and families in CT.

Prayers up. No words...just Why? I posted on FB with my friends and we all just are in shock and horror for them.

I have to go. I have an hour drive to the closing and back in traffic. I don't think I can bear to listen to the news anymore :( What a very sad, sad day. If my children were still in school, I would be going to pick them up and get them near....smh
Mourning, mourning...breathe
Bbl wu fam I know you are all hurting too.

Sorry I missed out morning/bedtime chat today!

I was up and out the door by 6:45 as I needed to drop C at the station. He has a Christmas party in London after work, so will be coming home late, and possibly too inebriated to drive home from the station. I dropped him off and he will get a taxi home in the wee small hours!

I then came home and began ironing, then house cleaning, but here I am, at 9:45, completely prepared for the weekend!

Hope your day goes well....:)

Hi hooooo all! Wow, once again I find all kinds of posts! Love, love it!

Sandi, I am a master silent 'Poofer'! bwahahaha! I saw and I conquered! LOL very early this morning before anyone knew I was here :)

Thank you Rob, for cracking the 'code'. What would we do without you?

Ylee, I actually didn't think of that quite yet, but now that you mention it, I may make a puppy too too or two or three, lol!!! Molly would look soooo sweet in a too too! ha ha. But, I am more interested in making some curtains and a few other very simple items (My own Christmas Stockings, etc)

Off to bed. Night all ships. Very pleasant weather here. :) zzzzz....

The Umm interesting was because we had a spammer, dropping a spam email link into the blogs.... Several of us clicked the 'report' icon to get rid of it! :-)

Glad you had a good day.

And Ylee's comment on you sewing items for the kitties and puppies went through my mind this morning, as well !! Lol

Hi Jus and friends!

The tutorial for the Youtube code generator is now in Post 7 and 8 of The Ark help files. The link to the generator is now in the right column in my links section.

Please read the tutorial. It's really easy once you know what to and not to do.

Haven't had a minute to play on da blogs today until now and just checking in to make sure alls well.

The weather is chilly, and I am about to get out of a warm bed to face the day... Isn't it time you headed to bed! Lol

Sweet dreams:-)

Ohhhhh Sandi! That is really sweet! Just love that you have been so exposed to this and so much history of the love. What an absolutely beautiful machine!
In a way, my mother just didn't get 'into' sewing. However, she was very, very musical.
Her sister (my aunt) was quite talented in this, and worked in the fashion district in NY. Maybe there is a side of us left to be explored. I do hope to share anything I learn with my daughters. Even my Tim is very interested in this. It has 'grown legs' in the family all of a sudden :)

Hey How's the weather? lolol

. I'm sew excited!!! LOL!!!!

Sorry Jus, I wandered off to Flickr to write a few comments there...

So you bought a Singer...the oldest and most reliable sewing machine on the planet....or so my mum would have said, as she had not one, but two of them. Mum was a tailoress, and taught me to sew when I was seven. I was allowed to use the hand sewing machine, but not the 'new' treadle sewing machine! Oh, the freedom to use both hands on the fabric, and not have to use one to 'turn the wheel'! She upgraded to an electric one when I went to senior school, letting me then use the treadle!! Oh, great memories!

If the store offers free lessons, take them... Or it will become like a camera that has lots of added programmes, but you never use them as you don't know how they work, and stay on auto all the time!

Hey, look what I found ...this was my mum's first sewing machine.... Well, not the self same one, one like it! lol

Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
oops bwahahahaha!!! Wow... It's magic! Again!!!

(look for the pinterest thing on the left, and below is the 'view product demo. Then hit the 'Features'. There are plus signs next to the features. Hit the plus signs and the sequential vids will show up. There is an arrow which says there are nine. Singer does need to make this more user friendly. If I weren't as patient, I would not have found it.)

I am not endorsing this machine at all, I am just buying my first one EVER! So, this is just a link to how excited I am to try this new hobby. Anything that keeps me out of the pubs or gambling, carrying on w/internet weather blogs, you know...j/k
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
It was a tough choice Sandi! I did research the Bernina and the comparable Janome. Love your story!!! So many people are just so attached to their 'machines' it is very heartwarming.
I am so new to this. But, I chose this one on sale. If you don't mind me posting the price, it was $199.00! And this local store also has service and support, plus lessons.
It has so many features, I could not resist. The Singer Patchwork 7285q. It has a few more features than this machine in this video link:

a href="" target="_blank">Link

On the left, there is a view product demo button. Gosh Sandi, I would love to hear your opinion on this purchase. I'm all in, though...so just wondering... I'm sew excited!!!
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Well I do believe I shall use the Wide Screen Embed--just to be different! So here goes!!! Wow am I glad I stayed up for this tonight! This beats the hell out of my new Singer Sewing Machine! ;)
P.S. You are all my favorite peeps on earth! Wow Rob, just Wow. And, Shore! I knew it was something due to the iframes. ty ty ty!!! Let there be tunage!

You bought a sewing machine? Oh, what make did you buy? You will love it...think of all these home furnishings you will be able to make!

I have a sewing machine I bought in1974, when was out in Zambia. It cost me a whole month's salary, but has been worth every penny. It is a Bernina, one of the old ones, made of metal and weighs a ton, but still works perfectly, even after being shipped across continents and through several house moves. I still have the original polystyrene packaging that holds it in its case! Lol
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Oh man....I bought a sewing machine instead. It's all good.

Bwahahaha!! Actually, that is where I have been while you are all posting these awesome tips. I have been comparing sewing machines, learning about them, reading reviews, etc....I finally bought MY Christmas present! I'm stoked!

Ok back to the tunage??? Whaaaaa??? Huhhhhhhh??? KK I need to review. Magic Button???? I'm intrigued!!! brb

Magic Button huh?

Okay, nobody hate on me until I write a tutorial, but Shore covered most of it. You can use the youtube.com/watch... url in the address bar and it will parse properly. You can't use the www.youtu.be... address in the share box. Naturally it won't embed anything that has embedding forbidden, it's not that magic. It's just a couple hundred lines of Javascript with creative commons licensing allowing me to modify it for my own means. Doesn't link to anything except Youtube. In fact, you should be able to save the .html file to your desktop and run it from there.

The default width is 480 which works well with WU. Normally you will use the code generated in the first box for standard definition or the last box for widescreen format.

I intend to add some more to the code, like "no-cookie" but have not had the time to devote to it this week.

Enjoy and send all complaints to Shore for jumping the gun!

Barefoot and Jus ~ On my sidebar, I have a link called "Magic Button". That's the Youtube code generator that Rob is working on. It works now, but I think he's still tweaking until he goes public with it. It's self-explanatory.

ADD: IMPORTANT: Get the youtube number from the URL in the address bar or the "share" URL that's under the video. (For example, xmNzLlxxnNk) But you can't use the whole URL under the video. It's different from the one in the address bar, and only the address bar URL will work in the code generator. But just the number is all you need.

The old object oriented embeds won't be coming back to youtube. They've gone to iframes completely because that's what works best with mobile devices and such. But now we have the workaround.

Another way to do it is to go here, copy the "object" embedded video code and manually substitute the youtube video number where it's required. That's what I was doing until Rob did his magic.

Couple cold and north-windy nights in central OK.

Hope someone gets youtube squared away. You really don't want to hear me singing...

Wow its the same accross the waters?????? Big topic here as they keep butchering old trees and in summer many of them die, the main complaint here is its not arborist doing the chopping so its quite brutal. I know they have to be trimmed because of bushfire but there is a right and a wrong way and time to do it. Yet if we wanted to remove or trim a tree for our purposes we have to go through all sorts of beaurocracy to do!!!!
Glad the sale went well, I'm afraid I'm one of those people who keep every record and instruction book pertaining to the house in a folder ready for when we need it or to pass on if we sell!!!! Somebody did it in one house we bought and it was sooo helpful I just started doing it myself.
Well we have had a 72 degree night and are heading for 91 today and its too hot for housework and cooking but it has to be done so have a great day!
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
I just realized it's been forever since I came by to say HI. And then I read your #19. That made me think so much of my parents' home. They bought in 1963 and my father has kept a house diary detailing everything from exactly where outdoor water lines are located to all the manuals on every appliance. Someday, when it is time to sell that home, it will be a real estate agent's dream.

came and chopped the crap out of all our trees by the wires
I know exactly what you mean. In summer of 2011, all roads and power lines in this area got that treatment. It looked absolutely terrible until new green this last spring started filling in a bit. It did keep us from having any serious power outages and also no storm damage to block roads. It really does help in the long run, but does look like crap. As you said, your gardening yields will improve, so it's not all bad. But they do butcher the trees horribly, don't they?

happy 12-12-12.By the stories of all the marraiges going on all over the world, makes me wonder do these people really believe this number configuration is going to ensure a good marriage?
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
I am so pleased the sale went through well, it must have given you a boost.

I had to look up a Generac....never heard of one, but thanks to the Internet, I am now fully conversant of the different types! I suppose we never need them over here, as our power doesn't often go out in the south, as the majority of the power cables are underground.

Time for bed??

Discussion NWS Chicago/Romeoville:
"...This would continue to support rain developing Friday night
with the greatest potential Saturday. Continue to base much of the
extended range forecast on the details of the European model (ecmwf)...which
eventually wraps colder air in behind the system Sunday as precipitation
diminishes. This maintains rain Friday night-Saturday night...with
rain/snow mix potential Sunday. Precipitation diminishes to perhaps a few
lingering flurries Sunday night..."

Asplundh!!!! Ha ha ha. What ever that company is...came and chopped the crap out of all our trees by the wires in the back yard today. Scalped is more the word! Holy moly! I think I can actually have a better garden now because they topped all the trees back there. Hope it helps in storms or ice storms. Not that I am thinking of an ice storm...ok well I go now. Tunes are calling on Rob's blog cause it seems he's the only one who can get us hooked up. Way to go Captain! Goodnight all ships at sea, or in port, or where ever you may be. Trains may be going to bed (darn I have to go and take pics of those trains ;)
Sweet simple Christmas Season dreams to all.

Closing went well. There are perfect days in Real Estate and this was one of them. Started at 1pm and it was complete by 2pm. Perfect stack of papers, not so big...lender great...(not BOA) and it was wired on time, too.
Happy couple! And, oh I have to tell you! This house came with a Generac!!! OMG to die for! Built in, on the ready. All the bells and whistles!! Woot woot! Total score for the buyer. Quality throughout in this starter ranch. Not the taj, but every big thing done.
There is nothing I LOVE more than sitting down at a closing table with a Seller giving the buyer EVERY manual on EVERY appliance in their beloved home. And, then explaining that certain things are STILL under lifetime warranty, like the windows--and providing the paperwork proper.
This is what I live for! Ha Ha...and if I can match a buyer to THAT kind of a home, it's a really good day. Very, very happy for the buyers.

It was cold enough for a coat today, lol. Maybe it snowed? However, at one point, that sun was so hot, I was wanting to take it off on the highway. (alright get yer minds out of the gutter...I mean my puffy coat ;)

Did we figure out the BB code vs You tube yet? Ugh...guess I have to catch up on that dilemma. Hope ya'll had a good day! One down, two yet to go in Dec.

I do hope you and the trains have gone to bed, and you are not lurking around, somewhere, waiting for me to wake up!

Good luck to the young couple....you are just an old softie, you know! :-)

"....Next weather maker to monitor is an upper trough currently
propagating across the Gulf of Alaska

consistent in digging this system south along the West Coast through
mid-week...developing into a closed low along the California coast
by late Thursday. This system is then prognosticated to move out across the
plains Friday/Friday night and across our region Saturday. There
remains some model spread with the track of the low across
Missouri/Illinois by Saturday...but thats to be expected at this
distance especially with lows ejecting from the southwestern states.
Both the European model (ecmwf) and GFS runs are a little farther south than those

event for the forecast area.
Continued to favor the consistent European model (ecmwf)
solution for timing of precipitation/precipitation type Friday night through

This is about the most interesting discussion of the Winter, so far maybe, lol ;)
Night all ships. Trains are going to bed and I move a very nice young couple into a long awaited home tomorrow. Peace and love and happy days ahead for them I hope. It's an adorable home :)

Thank you Ozgalah. Really, they are not that elaborate, lol! Your daughter will be digging out for days! 93 degrees there whoah!!! Who wants a pine tree in the house, lol??? Have fun though!

Hmmmm A Christmas memory from Illinois: Christmas shopping and getting chocolate covered turtles from the peanut and candy counter in Marshall Fields. Or we'd also get Chocolate covered raisins with my Grandma who was in from New York :)

Going to Hawthorne Shopping Mall as a huge group/family and everyone 'spreading out' to shop, and meeting at the McDonalds 3 hours later!

Simply beautiful Jus! Got to get my decorations and tree up, very different thinking of Christmas in the heat.
Daughter sent me photos of their snow yesterday, must admit with 93 degrees prodicted for today wouldn't mind a bit of snow!!!!

No Snow Wab! And, you can keep that flu down there, ugh. Hope you did not get it. I've had my flu shot, so hopefully the strain which is going around will not get to me.

ROTF NEw, it was getting late and we were like the only one's commenting so it was funny. I have to say, I vote for no animated icons on the community activity. They make me dizzy moving all the time in the peripheral vision...
(Wait--did anyone ask? Oh...lol, too bad I gave my two cents anyway :)

Okay here's a fun video complements of one of our resident Yuppers UncleMush! Hope everyone's Monday is tollerable!

Awe dangit, I can't figure out the bypass to the embed code Skye taught me last night. But here's the link to the tune on Youtube:
