Go Northern Illinois University!

December 9, 2012 - The storm to our North rages on. Minneapolis set a record for 10.2 inches of snow on this date and broke the record of 7.4 inches in 1964 (per WeatherUnderground tweet).
Our discussion indicates we are dropping in temps and could still see some minor accumulations around 1/10 of an inch, but maybe more in some areas.

Seems today was the HUGE shopping and preparation day in Chicagoland.
Even I ventured out to one of those big box craft stores, and it was soooo crowded, someone was screaming "Marco!!!" and their lost friend on the other side of the store was screaming "Polo!!!" back to them! LOLOL.
I promptly turned around and walked out when I saw the lines!
I simply said, "I'll make due with what I have for decorations, and make it work".

So, this becomes 'A Simple Christmas Blog'
Post something which is so simple and says 'Christmas' to you. (Or, which ever holidays you celebrate--EOHB --Equal Opportunity Holiday Blog here LOL! Just post a simple thought, picture, poem, memory, smell, sight--and we'll KISS the holidays together!
Keep It Simple Stupid...and be reminded we don't need anything more than the laugh of a friend or child, or a snowflake on our tongue, or (add your thought please _______?

So--This is my tree, it has lots of lights
And, this is my dog who sleeps here at night
And these are my stairs
I wrapped them in green
and lighted the path for my Mother the queen
She's coming to visit and that makes it special
To see all the Grands
Who've grown like the devil
And we'll make some quaint cookies
And sing in the choir
With family and friends we'll sit by the fire

Surrounded by children yewts puppies and kittens
We'll go through the bins and find the lost mittens

Yeah..Okay! I go now!!! Stay safe all Ships ----
OHHH That reminds me of one of my favorite SIMPLE Christmas Carols---
"I Saw Three Ships"...(Will post the link below when I find just the right -simple- video ;)

Here's the simple slide show of our decor this year...Truly be safe all ships at sea, or in port, or wherever you may be these holidays! We'll leave the lights on for 'ya!

GM,Jus,goodbye to the holidays.
I see Congress finally did something last night.Big Deal!!So my question is why couldn't you do it like a month ago,and the job isn't completed yet.
So are they expecting everyone to give them a standing ovation.Sheesh,I wouldn't have a job if I performed my work as badly as they do.
Anyway not feeling well the last couple of days, cutting my workday short, going back home this morning. And to really add to my not feeling well,I come out and find my battery dead.A good indication battery is not healthy, when the first cold morning kills it.

Hi Wab, oh well. They didn't win, but it was great to see them in the game! Hope the buses have good weather back to NIU. What a good time for those students. I'll bet they had a blast.

26 bus loads of students went down there to cheer the team on .. Cinderella story ..

Still watching the game, and I give them credit for being there! Still, go Northern!

Anyhoooo. Guess Ratzer sums it up for the next week (discussion)

//prev discussion...
300 PM CST

An active pattern in the northern stream will provide some ups and
Downs with temperatures for the next week but virtually no chance of
any drought relief.

Mom leaves tomorrow early and has good weather! Yay. Night all ships! Happy New 2013. May all your dreams come true!

Hi all. Thank you Pat. Pros, thank you again. I thought is was posted here lol, but I guess it was FB. But no matter. Such a beautiful card, again.
Sandi, thank you for the White Wabits for the new year.
Shore, really great art by your friend. Will have to look her up. What a very cool T-shirt design! Did she put them up online on CafePress or something, as well as at the Festival? Love it. Hope you had a great New Year's Day.

Yewts arrived back in OKC just fine.

Okay, Northern is where our friend's son goes. He is a drummer in the band and is there at the game. Also, many of my friends and my sister went there. We're just happy to see Northern in the Orange Bowl, and ranked so high (15th) doing so well!

Go Huskies!

Jus~ That's just flat funny! And I love the connection. My artist friend who did that cowgirl on the moon (a tribute to real cowgirl Hallie Stillwell, btw) had the image selected for the tee shirts sold at the Kerrville Arts and Crafts festival a few years ago. I actually scanned that image off my tee shirt! LOL

Happy New Year - on we go!

Shore!!! You will NOT believe this! Yes, ok we went and had a wonderful dinner with friends. We were home by midnight. However!!!!! There was a half hour conversation about a costume our friend wore for Halloween. He said it was the funniest costume and he made it himself and went on and on and on! You will Not Believe What the costume WAS???

Evening, Jus ~ Hope you're well on your way to some fun, and that the weather cooperates. I laughed at your comment about the raises. When I heard it, I kept thinking about the old preacher in my grandparents' town who was paid with a place to stay, an occasional chicken and plenty of pie. Maybe we could guarantee every legislator a cold-water walk-up, chickens and pies. Think that'd do 'em? LOL

Happy New Year to you - I'm looking forward to the upcoming one. I've no idea what's going to happen, but that's part of the fun!

Helloooo, took all my energy and still a couple of advils to get dressed, go up and down the stairs to the laundry (in the basement--note to Realtor self--add on a main floor laundry) Still zapped of energy, but I have to keep moving.

Your new shoes sound nifty! LOL cool with the cleats.

My friend is in Buffalo. She said they have more snow than she has ever seen in her life! And she's from here by Chicago. Quite a storm.

New Year's eve we are going for an early dinner with the group and probably getting home early too because of the road blocks and general ridiculousness. I've already planned on being the DD. However, if that plan fails, apparently we can call and get rides from several sources, including our AAA. So, we'll see.

Still working on son's place. It's hard to be in a small town (we know the owner, and the other neighbors in the building). I want to leave everything just perfect and better than when he moved in. They had a problem getting a couch out and biffed the walls so we patched and painted last night. Hoping it matched well.

Happy New Year, but I think I'll be by to pass out greetings. It's been a heck of a year! Toast to 2013 being even better.

P.S. Really nice that the boneheads in Washington voted themselves a raise. I'd like to fire them ALL collectively for dereliction of duty and mismanagement! Or take away their lifetime benefits instead of them hitting us up for the cash. grrrrrrr.....that's all I have to say bout that :(

Hi,Jus,like BF's suggestion, alchol will take away any pain you have.
Anyway, sorry about your bears, but as you said they have nobody to blame but themselves. As far as Cutler that people are injured, all the teams suffer injuries, thats not an excuse.I see this morning, they fired Lovey Smith.
Like you we are heading into a quiet, but cold period as well,we had about 8 inches Saturday night.
Took a walk last night and roads were icy around the neighborhood, but my daughter gave me these cleats that strap on to my shoes, and they worked great,so I did get something useful for Christmas.
Do you have any big plans for New Years eve?I'll have a quiet night with some neighbors.New Year's eve is not a big deal with me,especially if our wonderful leaders can't compromise, and we all have a huge chunk of money take from us.Not much to celebrate there.

Jus - I do hope 2013 is a very happy and safe year for you and your family.
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Lol. You might want to sip a little glass of good Scotch while you're in the tub.

Will be cold but the weather should be cleared off down this way by the time the kids get home.

Good night. Sleep well. et cetera. Hi to Mom.

Hiya BF, kiddos go back to OK New Years Day. Hoping the weather holds out. Dau's first year teaching has had many awesome stories. The kids will be unruly when she begins back from the break (4th grade). It's been so nice spending so much time with them :)

Bears are dang bubble heads heads. They won 26-24 goofy score, but by the skin of their teeth and it was for nothing, because Green Bay had to beat Minneapple for just a ghost of a chance in the playoffs (wildcard).
Glad I'm a Green Bay fan and can roll with Sconsin (always have). Bears just break my heart like the cubs...whine whine whine

And now, I do believe a bubble bath will take all the pain away :)
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
So, did the Bears win? I didn't hear the score.

Getting a little rain here. This is good. Hope your OK family is tucked safely in for the night.

Ps. Gaga back atcha.

Hi Ylee and Sandi, OOOOOuuuch! Every bone in my body hurts. Whiiiiine. And, we were still helping with the move of son until a few minutes ago.

We saw 'da Bears with a very nice party with some of the yewt and my mom earlier... Everyone in the place was singing 'Bear Down Chicago Bears' yada yada... We were sooooo quiet all of a sudden when Detroit just started moving the ball so fast. The whole game was just ugly and if they are not in the playoffs it is because of themselves, not Green Bay.

I was watching an interview with Cutler about 2 weeks ago. He said 'Everyone is hurt, it is the end of the season'. Uhm...well. No Jay, it isn't the end of the season when you have 2 games and uhm the playoffs???!!!!!
So, as for me, I didn't expect much. I do believe at one point, I screamed run Forest run...

Ok, so then the Williams play for GB???!!! What? Huh? That was like soooooo unbelievable! Did he get passed over by the Bears? Have a grudge fit and tossed the game or what? I have never, never seen such a blatent foul which like COMPLETELY lost the game for a team. Anyone? Anyone?
Sheesh. And that's all I have to say about that.

Oh, peace, love and all that gaga :)

If I tried to take to the road for a workout, I'd get either run over by a redneck in a 4x4, or get wiped out by a farmer pulling something large with a tractor! :) May have to invest in a treadmill!

Was over at BF's and her latest graphic shows rain only for the eastern part of the state; we're supposed to get a "wintry mix" tomorrow! Bleah!

Wishing Da Bearz good luck!

Sounds like you got wind burn on your face, plenty of moisturiser should help.

I don't know, you do seem to have a busy and stressful life.... any chance 2013 might be any easier? Noooo? I didn't think so!
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Ok well, that was random cause Mom is here. (don't ask). We seem to be going into another spell of uneventful weather here in Chi? Cold, but rather uneventful. This is good!

Yewts have it cold down in FL. They made it just fine last night ;) whew...

I did a 5 mile walking thing this morning and it was very cold. But, I promised I would do it (what the heck was I thinking??? LOL) Meatloaf joined us because he is my most experienced jogger/runner. We had fun. However, My face seems to have a rash from the cold??? or a wool hat, or something? Very strange, but I think the rash was truly from the cold. It was about 23 degrees with a stiff 10mph wind. (The relatives convinced me to do it).
Then I had to clean my home for hours (saturday cleaning) ugh! I'm going to be sooooo sore!

In any case, looks like the only peeps I'm concerned about for weather at this point are the Oklahoma bound gang...hmmmmm

Ok peace out all ships. Be safe!

Yewts on their way to Clearwater, FL. I know, I know, I didn't tell anyone that they were going on vacation because--eh hemmmmm We all Know They Need A Vacation (yeah, right)...
Anyway, I've been checking weather all night for them as it bobbles between snow and freezing rain/rain etc... They were in Louisville about 10pm. Should be in TN now?

Watching the MCD and sort of glad they left rather late. Need to run the models for all the other people traveling from one end of the Country to the other. Sheesh I'm waaaaayyyy stressed and I didn't go any where, lol!!!

So we have: Chi to OKC Tues. - Check. Chi to NJ Sunday - Check. Clearwater back to Chi Weds - Check. Then Mom's flight Chi to Lauderdale Weds - Check

Wokay. I'll get right on that. LOL!

Night all ships! Stay safe! Over and out!

Hi Ylee! (love the cams lately!)

Well, follow the bouncing ball is right! We went with everyone and ended up in a ping pong tournament thing! (well maybe I warmed them up. They didn't play like they would have against 'a mom'...but I had the table and shocked them all for like three games! lol) bwahahahaha! what a blast. Kids and fam got a kick out of it.

Skokie and N. Shore getting quite a blasting of snow from the full fetch of the storm off the lake :) Nice... (oops, I think it is nice because it is so pretty in snow over there :)

Trains going to bed, soon to bring in a New Year! Stay safe all ships at sea or in port, or wherever you may be. Peace on earth..zzzzz

That's how we were last Thursday! If that had been snow, we'd still be shoveling out. Hope you don't get hit too, too badly.

WINGS!!! (and trivia) It's wing night again, no matter if we just ate and drank our way through Christmas Tuesdayall the relatives who still in town are going, too. Should be a hoot.

BF, Sandi, Oz, Ylee, Mass, Bug, Calpoppy, Pros!!! all you all!!! I'm collectively sayin 'howdy!!!' Hope everyone is following the bouncing ball on this blog this month! Sheesh...it's nutty around here :) Stay well with all the storms around gang!

oops, duh...I forgot to post the alert for Chicago (sorry)

Special Statement
Statement as of 12:34 PM CST on December 27, 2012

... Snow showers to affect mainly north side of Chicago and near
north suburbs early this afternoon...

At 1230 PM CST... a band of lake effect snow showers extended from
along the Lake Shore between Evanston and Lincoln Park... inland to
the west side of the city. Within this band... especially within a
few miles of the Lake Shore... visibility has been reported as low
as a half of a mile in snow... with some minor accumulation of
several tenths of an inch. These lake effect snow showers will
likely continue to affect mainly the north side of Chicago and the
near north suburbs including Evanston... Wilmette... Skokie and
Niles into early afternoon... while snow diminishes to mainly
flurries across the central and southeast parts of the city and
Northwest Indiana. Untreated or more lightly traveled side
streets... parking lots and sidewalks will likely become slippery
in a few spots where the heavier snow showers occur... though main
streets and highways should largely remain wet with temperatures
near 30 degrees.

1126 am CST Thu Dec 27 2012

... Lake effect snow affecting city of Chicago...

Lake effect snow showers were affecting portions of the Chicago
area at midday... particularly from the near north side... south
through downtown and along the South Shore into far Northwest
Lake County Indiana. Minor accumulations of up to a half inch and
visibility reductions to less than a mile have been reported with
the heavier snow showers.

Snow showers will likely continue to move inland across much of
the city of Chicago into the afternoon hours... while diminishing
across Northwest Indiana. The lake effect snow showers will also
likely move into the near north suburbs along the lake. Snow
showers should weaken somewhat during the afternoon... with areas
generally east of the tri state tollway expected to see snowfall
amounts ranging from a dusting to perhaps as much as an inch in a
few spots closer to the lake. More lightly traveled side
streets... parking lots and sidewalks will likely become slippery
in some locations... though most major roadways should remain wet
with temperatures in the upper 20s to around 30.

Hard to believe we may see our first accumulating snow in the Chicagoland area, while the rest of the country digs out of one ordeal or another.

Muscles still sore, but I am getting a break from moving (because I went to work, lol). Son and GF are trying to move to Colorado. They had a person who can sublet immediately so they saw their chance to free themselves from the lease situation. They are only moving to my house temporarily (again :p)

bbl showing houses this afternoon before the snow. Good timing!

GM,Jus,happy to hear your holiday was good one.
Take it easy with the moving, you don't want to go back to work hobbled and making noises each time you move or get up.

Hi all. Hope you have all been safe from the storms over the holiday! Thank you for stopping by :) It was much appreciated since it's just been a whirlwind here.

Had to switch gears today and help with son's move. Every bone in my body was already moving top speed over the holidays, and now, there are aches in places I didn't know I had, lol.

Christmas was wonderful though. Thank you, again, for all your wishes.

Prayers up for all who had damage from the storms! Peace out...zonk!

Merry Christmas Jus to you and your family!! Like you we have been flat out, family came for dinner on Christmas eve and then brekkie at son's home, then we expected to go home and have a lazy day, but an unexpected call from friends to join them for dinner yesterday changed that! It was a great night and a chance to catch up with a family we had not seen for over ten years as they moved interstate so it was great! Now today we hope to sort the fridge and ALL that food that needs freezing or throwing, (hopefully not too much of that) and with the dogs to help mininise wastage it should be fine!
Heading for a glorious 84 degrees, comfy chair in the shade and a good book looks VERY inviting! Have a wonderful day Merry Christmas to all

Man, I'm sorry I didn't get to you all with Christmas greetings. We have been busy!
I send you my slide show (of course) with love and please try to play your favorite holiday carol with it on youtube. Or play the one I picked below. Newtown was so much a part of our Christmas. My heart and soul lights the candles for their vigil tonight.
Pax, out. Love you WU ;)
