The Windy City - Severe Saturday?

By: juslivn , 12:20 AM GMT on September 15, 2012

Welcome Fall (well, the feel of Fall is already in the air) and welcome all the changes a new season brings.
Let's see where the winding road takes us in this blog. Thank you for stopping by to set a spell and take in life :)

Candles lit for all those in harms way, or who have perished by weather, volcanoes, earthquakes, political/religious unrest and illness or strife. May the changing of the seasons bring about a change of calm skies, peace and goodness to the world.

Jus never mind just found the news article

Jus .. where did you get that info ?? the Amber Alert site still has it active...
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Hmmmm. No, she is being held because she was 'involved'. She 'reported' the baby missing after driving off from the post office. Her other child was still in the car. She then said she didn't know the younger baby was gone until she got home. Then media appeals went out, including by the family of the Mother, etc...to try to find the baby. It became a huge search, but there were holes in her story. So two people found the baby by the side of a rural road just outside of town. They were all out looking and searching and heard the baby crying right away.
Details still emerging. But, I didn't hear of anyone else but the mother in custody yet.

I'll have to post something else because I hate to leave the blog overnight on this note ;( Whacky world we live in.

I'm confused; the 19yo mom took the baby? It was originally in someone else's custody?
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Oh sorry Ylee, darn it. I was watching the news and they DID find the baby ALIVE! However, the young 19 yr. old mother is in custody :( What makes these yewt so scared to do things like this? How unfortunate. But, I am sooooooo happy the baby was found alive.

In other news they found the body of a missing Northwestern student, Marsha Medulah, in the waters off Wilmette Harbor. :( He was from New York and attending the University. Seeing his family all come to Chicago from there and all over (over 40 members of them) to help find him was heartbreaking. He had diabetes and speculation is, he got sick or disoriented and fell? RIP and prayers for his family and friends.
Support for the Northwestern Family, too. They did everything they could to find him and get the word out quickly.

Add: This is my dilemma about the furniture--I can't find any markings to tell an appraiser. I have to drag it around in the trailer to places by appointment and who has time for this? Sorry to answer this with the above...

Jus, I"d definitely get that furniture appraised before selling it. You wouldn't want some "picker" buying your stuff for cheap, and selling it for 5-10 times what he paid for it!

I hope they find that baby soon! :(
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Hi, wow what a long day and dau is here to list that stuff on e-bay or craigslist. (BF, I know! They are selling all the 'fun' stuff).

We did not list all the stuff on e-bay. We are going to try to store the stuff for the gang until they have a decent basement or additional room. (actually, Tim and I are going to be playing foosball in the basement for beer, LOL ;) The bar is shaping up nicely down there, ha ha.

Anyhoooooo, Wab -
Thank you for the update on the Amber Alert. Just awful!
I was in the shower when my weather alert radio went off and...being the wx geek I am, stopped the water and got out all sudsy and listened...I think it is a good thing they do with the Alert radio. I hope the child is found.

Hi NEw, yes. I think our Mothers could leave us in carriages outside the post office with no worry back in the days long gone :(

NEw, the colors exploded in Northern Illinois yesterday and today! I had to show houses almost to the Lake, in Lake County and it was just spectacular!
If anyone is thinking of going to say, Lake Geneva or The Kettle Moraine Park in South East/Central WI or to any Illinois parks for the show...I think this weekend and next will be the best!

Ylee - Ha ha, nooooo these are similar, but not exact. The chair looks exact, but not the love seat. Our love seat has two cushions.
So anyhoooo, I don't think anyone in my family pilfered the furniture off the set! I am arguing with everyone that the furniture is of more value than anyone thinks it is. They all want to just get rid of it. I obviously have watched one too many Antique Road Shows, LOL! I cannot find a marking on the furniture anywhere. We need to take time and bring it to someone who really knows how old this furniture is before I part with it. My Mother bought it at auction in prestigious Long Grove, IL many, many years ago when they lived there. It was perfect for their home there. Ramble Ramble....

Sandi, hi you! How are you? Ryder Cup is at Medinah Country Club, which is about 41 Miles straight South of me. It is very pretty and I have been there. When I was there, I saw Tom Watson in a rare match when he was playing with (paired?) with his son. It may have been a practice round, but it was very cool they were playing together.
I certainly hope they have watered! The course could be like concrete and a bit difficult with our drought lately! Nice to know we have a 'World Class' event happening close by. (Maybe I mentioned? I was married to a Golf Pro for 11 years--my 3 kids Dad. Then divorced for many, many years before meeting T.
Early in life, I had quite enough 'golf' to last a life time! So now I don't pay attention much, lol)

Off to get something done around here...Hubby has a ward meeting late tonight and is then off tomorrow to share a four day weekend. (I may show houses Saturday)
I am very happy at this point in our careers my schedule is flexible and we have no kiddies running around. We are having so much fun being empty nesters!!!
BBL to check the WX and friends blogs...

Jus,awful story,I get so creeped out by these animals that abduct these kids. We had an incident a couple of weeks ago where two kids playing in their front yard and guy drives up and tries to pull the young girl into the car, thankfully she got away.
Scary,just scary.
We in full fall mode now as we start to get mornings in 40's and some 30's,and we have trees starting to change.

So someone stole Alfred's knick knacks for the movie set, and a couple owners later, they're yours? I do hope the statute of limitations has passed! ;-)(Just kidding!)

Take care!

I had to watch that video clip a couple of times before I focused on the settee like yours... you are certainly more observant than I am!
It is a beautiful set, and definitely a family heirloom!

I see the Ryder cup is in your state.... how close to you? I will watch some of it, especially as it gets towards the final day:-)

So Cute!

Hello Finn! YW!
Thank you, thank you on the kiddies. They are good babies.

We've had some very good weather around our parts, but Dau#3 is getting more than her share in Oklahoma, yikes. He future in-laws live in Piedmont and had some nasty hail this evening, too.

As for us. I did have to water again today. It is extremely dry and wish that would change. But we'll take the temperatures anyway

Only real news here - A rip current warning (and I think a small craft advisory?) for Lake MI by Lake and Cook Counties over to Indiana/W. MI.
Lots of Waterspouts this year. Wonder if there will be more with this tomorrow morning?

Watching OK weather, so, Night All! Stay Safe all Ships!

{{{Jus}}} - saw you buzzed, sending a big hug for that :)

PS. Gorgeous grand-kids!

Hi, looks like you are getting it pretty good, too there SD. Stay safe and hope it is over by now!

I got home late from my son's so I just sort of watched the storms in So. IL and didn't jump on to post. Saw some tweets about damage, ugh! Yes, part 3 begins, Fall storms.

So, here is the pics from my visit with the 'grandkids' lol, ok fine--grandpups! What a great yard my son has at his new place. We sat and visited for a while. It was his day off. The dogs are really well cared for and happy. (I am proud of my son. He is a lucky kid for getting something like this with a great yard and tolerant landlord. Plus, a neighbor upstairs with Bella! Is that not freaky luck smiling on everyone?!!!)

On another note: It was 'Marnie' for tonight's Alfred Hitchcock movie. Interesting flick. You WILL NOT believe what I saw in that movie. I'll post it after the pups...
Night all ships!

Scene from 'Marnie' - (couldn't believe the sets of this film! Awesome. Plenty of reviews on the plot and very interesting for the 'times'. Sean Connery--Well need I say more??? We could 'stare' at him all day! LOL) But, I picked out something in a scene which was uncanny! I think I have these similar pieces! Do you remember me posting we inherited them? I have not sold them yet! If you are on my FB, shhhhhh, don't give it away)

(see minute 2:38 thru 2:50, you can stop the tape). The whole thing is pretty darn good, too.

I almost ignored mySDself. lol

Getting a little taste of second season tonight. Maybe will kick in good by October. Pretty stormy up in MO and KS. Moreso than here. But we are getting a good line through. So. IL, too. Places that need rain.

O h Jus what are you doing to me, Fields of Gold is one of my favorite songs and makes me cry! I am an only child but have lots of cousins, and that song makes me think of long English summer days running through the corn fields with my cousins....oh happy days! All around us at the moment there are fields of gold but its canola.

Oh, you were referring to Typhoon Jelawat! Duh! Now it all makes sense! :) I was thinking what unit of measure is a jelawat?

I figured that you avy was taken either in Cali or Lake Mich.(the guy in the water behind you beng sucked out by a rip current)!

You think the NFL will kick out the scabs and give the real refs a raise and let them come back? Not likely. If the Players Association was serious about solidarity, they'd walk, too, citing safety concerns. That'd bring everybody to the table!

PS. YW. I mostly remember being p'o'ed at the car. Ended up banging the accelerator cable with a hammer and stomping on the accelerator pedal until whatever was stuck came loose. Then I kept driving.

I'm talking too much. I better check weather. Later.

Didn't see the controversial end of the Seahawk game because I flipped over to Dancing with the Stars to wait for Emmitt Smith's dance... :)

BUT the thing that got me mad on Sunday was that guy (#51 on the Denver Broncos) when he tried to put Houston's QB in the neuro ICU, or kill him. #51 shoulda been kicked out then and there, and suspended, and forced to donate to a neuro rehab ward, if not be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. What a jerk. All the namby-pamby officials did was call a penalty.

Wow!!! SD, that's crazy scary! Glad you made it out of that one ok! Can't imagine how long it took for your heart rate to return to normal!

Some shakin goin on up there in N. Cal earlier today, 4.5 eq.

Thanks for bringing the story!

Hiya SD! Came back to post this funny. Ooooh a story! bbl to read that post

Pic was taken at Newport Beach (hubby took it when I didn't even know) It reminds me of Cali :)

This is floating around FB but cracks me up after last nights debacle

Ps. Where was the pic in your new avatar taken?

Have a good one.

Haha, jus. You're here. Just finished writing a comment.

I like Sandi's poem a lot. Very romantic. Melting butter and melted hearts.

Never seen that Hitchcock scene. I have lived it though. Lol. My '86 (ironic?) Buick Electra Estate Wagon, a great car otherwise - tried to kill me one time on a northern CA two-lane mountain highway. Maybe too long a story to put here.

Very cute Sandi! Love that image of butter dripping from fingers onto crupets. Thanks for bringing that by! Bz at work but popping in to check on the fort.

Going to see Boomer and Molly after work. Oh, and son#2 LOL ha ha

It is an absolutely beautiful day here. The trees are really starting to turn now with a show of yellows and some orange up here. May be able to get pics later today when I'm visiting the doggies.

Have a great day!

I am glad your week is behaving better than last week!

Some of the words you had written set my mind towards a creative bent!

Ever since Linda introduced me to 'tetactrys' poetry I have become fascinated by the mathematical rhytmn of them, so here is one for you!

By the fire
Butter dripping
Slowly down fingers.
Crackling logs in fire grates
Curtains closed against the night.
Autumn comes, temperatures fall
Snuggling together, watching old films,
Remembering hot days of summer - gone!

Hi, tonight is warmer here Wab. Hope you are warmer, too.

Ooops I think the windows are still open here and I probably should close those before going to bed. Thanks for the reminder, but it has been rather pleasant today.

In other news....My husband has been into the Alfred Hitchcock movies lately because he found the Alfred Hitchcock Channel on Encore or something. He is determined to see all the films like a series. (wow)

When we were in California, we tried to go where the scene from Vertigo was filmed at the tower, but we got a bit distracted, lol.
Anyway...he was watching yet another one, 'Family Plot' and this scene came on.
Cracked me up! LOL!
I am soooo glad we did not see this before we went to see the Sequoias up and down those mountain roads!

(The scene is totally me even on the way to Midway Airport on the Dan Ryan in Chicago, LOL!!!)

Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Nice song NEw! Yes, we are at 72f/42f at night...peeerfect! I'll take it! May even get a bit warmer tomorrow.
I stopped by your blog but didn't get a chance to write. Saw you got a lot done and are thinking of doing the floor. We did 'Manufactured Hardwood' It is sort of like laminate, but yet still hardwood. That was about 4 years ago and with the traffic here in this house!!! It is holding up great. Many colors and woods are available...we did Brazilian cherry. Love the product though and could give you the specs if needed. See you tomorrow. You know I'm always popping in when I can. Rarely miss a blog even if I don't post.

Hi Ylee!!!! I love your new blog, too! Thanks for the info on Jelawat. I was goofy yesterday. But...all the activity of the day before with the Art Institute and the trains and waahooooo. I was just having fun. Sounds like it is an early Fall for us all. Very weird to have our seasons almost reflect something somewhat 'normal'.

As for work, I made it through without a hitch today (so far). Last week was unbearably heart wrenching and I'm like totally scarred and need therapy! But...that's another story :) LOL Snuggle close in these great sleeping weather nights! Have a bonfire or a taffy apple!
At the dinner the other night, I had a piece of cheese I could literally taste a whole scene of sitting by a campfire in the mountains--it was smoked so lusciously! MMMMMMM. Gotta love Fall!
Thanks for stopping!

Jelawat is a village in Bachok district, Kelantan, Malaysia. At least that's what Wikipedia says! :)

I guess I missed out on all the fun, dangit! :)

37 and enough frost for me to have to scrape my winshield; I guess fall's coming early this year!

Hope work is treating you better this week! Take care!

Hi,Jus,was off since last Thursday, sheesh days off go by fast.Anyway are we all getting prepared for colder temps coming.38 degrees this morning, but still its been beautiful fall weather this past weekend.

Hmmm they're tossing around fire weather alerts for here in Northern IL, too, on the discussion tonight. Not good news for Northern IL.

Brrrr. We're at 38.6F here. I stayed inside and baked all day :) It smelled like a bakery in here. We also checked the boat due to the winds last week. One of the lines did stretch and was in the water. Wow. But, it did fine. I'm starting to think it will be an early 'Fall Boat Day' (pull out) this year.

Oh well, night all ships. Be safe.

Hi Ozgalah, oops I didn't see you there, we posted at the same time. Awe, I guess you would not love the GSP, then LOL. Glad you have a break for a little while from your busy show schedule.

Hope someone can bring you a pumpkin maybe? Or send you one? Maybe just some little gourds? Oh you will have fun with your dau being there for the holiday.

Meatloaf's eye has had to have drops, but there has been no improvement. I had him on hydrocodone allergy pill, too but I'm shocked how bad this eye thing is.
And, now the kitty has some sort of missing fur and two injuries on her hocks. I need an antibiotic for her, too I think. It never ends. What's up with that! UGH.

Oh well, I suppose it could be worse. Knock on wood it is nothing serious. Stay cool! Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Jus, the GSP is nice but in our group at the dog show one of our top winning dogs is a GSP and most of us sort of go ohhhhh when it wins AGAIN!!!!! That sounds bad but it is beautiful and there can only be ONE winner. Love the "travelling man" photo, hows the kennel cough and the eyes going? My guys are having a break now no shows for a while, daughter is coming in Nov. as we can't fly for a while owing to H's health, she is bringing us Thanksgiving....... not sure if I can find pumpkins in our spring though. We have 16 degrees today and heading for a possible 29 wed/thurs hope summer takes a while to hit us!
Sounds like you had a wonderful night with all the art and glad it wasn't too cold, loved Chicago, the architecture was amazing!

How many Bloggers does it take to screw in a 100 Jelawat light bulb? One hundred. One to do it and 99 bloggers to argue whether or not a Jelawat will cause global warming.

Add: I know, I know...that was really, really bad.
Hi SD. Yes, last night was pretty amazing. I seriously have to go back. Do you know that was the first time I've ever been there? Not sure if the impressionists are always there, but that gallery is simply the most beautiful. There were some galleries closed to our group which I must go back and see again.
Thanks for stopping.
Will have to look at Miriam. Can't believe we are still seeing Nadine! Have a nice Sunday.
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
LMAO. Jealous of what?

Monet and decades of popular music in the same evening. Lucky girl, you. Add in Frank Lloyd Wright, and I could've died then and there.

Miriam is bound to put on a good show.

Have a great Sunday.

(ohhhhh Jelawat--uhm nvrmnd)
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
It was fantastical! Just amazing! The Monet and the Impressionists! I wanted to cry! I think I did cry. To be among that art and look around a room where stepping back in the room they would dance again from every angle 25 ft away or 2 feet in front of your eyes!

Oh, I was wrong earlier. Not Lake Shore Drive, duh...Michigan Ave. I have pics of the lions on my phone but it died

The R 'n' R exhibit was good. I may have been one of the few people who really, really looked at that :)

Pics of the trip are on my phone but none from inside (uploaded some of the trip to FB) but the rest I will post tomorrow.

I see they expanded the frost warning to include us now. It truly was not bad in the City. It was refreshing. When we got to Fox Lake (and the trains went to bed ;) it smelled almost like snow.

Goodnight all ships, be safe. Visions of Monet are dancing in my head all night for dreams.

No problem ycd! It was an interesting story I'll have to check on you to see how it's going :)

Going down to 34 degrees late tonight. Obviously planning on wearing a pretty heavy coat for being right on Lake Michigan tonight. Brrrr in the Windy City on LSD ;)

Here is a link to what we may be seeing tonight at the Art Institute of Chicago. I'm looking forward to the Film and Photo in New York exhibit, and the Allen Ruppersberg collection "No Time Left to Start Again/The B and D of R 'n'R", and the Frank Lloyd Wright one.

I'm just hoping I am on the right blog. are You the guy who has an interest in pellet guns? If so I finally got a pocket of pellets and tried out the pistol. I hit the bird feeder storage can at 40'. No idea so far where this thing is throwing the pellets yet.
Guy I work for has just bought an Air Rifle with a scope. He's serious about pinging the black squirrels.
She will not settle till I come to bed!
Sorry- I meant to post on a different blog but got rushed off to bed before I had checked. Blogging too late is fun but not always simple.
I can appreciate the sentiments surrounding the candle above - maybe light one myself tonight.

Indianapolis is getting the brunt of this central system now...
I have a confession to make. It was cold and rainy and I stayed in my bed and watched tv-- 'Mountain Men' all day on History Channel. Now I'm having a glass of Chardonnay and maybe going to half price za :) Life has its compensations. It was one of my hardest EVER work weeks in my life. EVER. I cannot post why. But, hopefully everything will work out for the best because I truly care so much, I over did it.

As for Mountain Men, I cannot get enough of German Shorthaired Pointer, Ellie on that show! I think Ellie is just amazingly beautiful :)

Not sure if I can photograph at the Art Institute. I still have no clue what I'm going to wear. Maybe will go shopping tomorrow? But, it's always a fun event once a year with this group--The Zoo, Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, now the Art Institute...Very good times. I'm blessed. Stay safe all ships!
Member Since: December 31, 1969 Posts: Comments:
Thanks Sandi! LOL Brrrrr cold and drizzly here. But, the last of the flowers look so pretty with the saturated colors.

Heads up Central IL/IN Tornadoes are a small possibility in the 'slight' risk area, as well.

Stay safe

Happy Friday for anyone who pops by. Sorry haven't been around much. Work and lots of family stuff zapping time away... I shall contemplate a Monet or two for 'ya tomorrow night at the Art Institute of Chi. Can't wait! We will have a special dinner there, too, in the museum. Have a great weekend.

Hi all. Sandi, Ylee...LOL I'm going to need a flannel dress and a hard hat with all this wind here in Chicago!!!

We had 'fire weather' watch today due to the low humidity and the winds. Now!!! We have thunderstorms!
How do we go from incredibly low humidity, to thunderstorms in a few hours! Wow!

The winds were very strong and wish I could have done a video when at their peak because the trees were really whipping around out there (as many of you have seen in my vids here)

Well, enough complaining about weather.
Kitty has a sore from a stray cat I'm concerned about. Why can't outdoor cats fight infections anymore? Hmmm. I never remember my kitties when I was young going to the vet all the time. Sheesh.
Meatloaf's eye infection is doing a bit better. Who knows what THAT is, too??? Hubby has to do the eye drops because it takes two to get those in.

Here's a new photo of Boomer (below)!! I can't wait to have them over. I miss my babies so much and due to work, plus Meatloaf's eye infection, I can't have them visit... Oh well, they are doing just fine without me :)

Ta ta all, and I will try to visit (lurk) if I just don't have words. Thanks for stopping and be safe all ships at sea or in port or where ever you may be!
You are in my thoughts...

Boomer wants to go riding in Wandering Gypsy's Jeep!

Flannel cocktail dresses are in, I hear :)

Not been around much the last few days, but I laughed when I saw the above comment.

Layers, my dear, layers! As in a fancy pashmina or glittery cardigan!

Hope you are well, and glad to see you drop by my blog, even if you don't have time for stopping! lol

Yes obviously, I'm tired...
We had a good rain here today. It did get cold fast and getting a tad chillier. Saturday, we have an evening event by the Lake Front in Down Town Chicago at the Art Institute. Uhm...it will be 57 degrees! Yes, trying to plan the wardrobe is always fun this time of year...Flannel cocktail dresses are in, I hear :)
